Wetland and Riparian Plant Associations
The Idaho Conservation Data Center has maintained data bases on the distribution and status of plant associations since 1984. This working list of plant associations has been developed based on published and gray literature and field surveys by staff from the Conservation Data Center as well as outside agencies. Abstracts summarizing environmental relationships, vegetation composition, and successional status for plant associations are compiled from all published and unpublished sources. Additional information, including Global and State Ranks, known locations, and best sources, is available on request from the Idaho Conservation Data Center. Description:
Abstract:
Primary Plant Association refers to the potential natural vegetation a site, or climax vegetation.
Purpose: Provide appropriate scale data to meet park management needs.
Plant Associations are based on the USFS photo-interpreted delineation of ecological units from CIR 1:63,360 photos with final adjustments made based on field work and 1:6,000 black and white photography. Mapping was drawn on 1:25,000 USGS topographic quadrangle overlays and digitizing by USFS. The vegetation types were classified based on previous work on plant associations in the Chatham Area portions of Admiralty, Baranof, and Chichagof (ABC) Islands. In some cases, the KLGO communities are somewhat different in both vegetation composition and structure from that average, probably due to the location of KLGO at the northern end of the Tongass. These community descriptions were provided specifically for KLGO but may become part of the future Chatham Area plan community descriptions.

PLANT ASSOCIATIONS OF THE MESOPHYTIC
Northern Hemisphere Triassic
Early Triassic vegetation is not well represented in the stratigraphic record, with a higher number (and better preservation) of assemblages known from the Late Triassic . Triassic vegetation of Laurasia, in general, is characterized by:
  • a mixture of primitive conifers (Voltziaceae and Lebachiaceae) Cycads and Cycadeoids a variety of gymnosperms ( pteridosperms Ferns (Marattiacean and Osmundaceous ferns persist from the Paleophytic; many "modern" groups diversify including Schizaceae, Osmundaceae, Dipteridaceae, and Gleicheniaceae) Sphenopsids Lycopsids - reduced to a small number of unbranched, herbaceous genera
Ginkgo aleans appear to have been geographically important, as they are preserved in abundance (and with high diversity) in northerly paleolatitudes. The pycnoxylic woody trees (Ginkgos, Coniferales) were medium-large in stature and probably formed a diffuse canopy. Ginkgos are thought to have occupied a position in the understory. There is little evidence to indicate that coniferous gymnosperms evolved the wide variety of growth habits experienced by extant angiosperms (herbs, vines, floating aquatics). It appears that rhizomatous ferns colonized open, dry, and/or nutrient poor sites, possibly forming savannah or "grassland" communities. Monotypic stands of lycopids and sphenopsids have been identified. Lycopsids (e.g.

RESEARCH PROJECT Larval case architecture and implications of host-plant associations for North American Coleophora (Lepidoptera; Coleophoridae
and John W. Wenzel
Museum of Biodiversity, The Ohio State University The case-bearing moths of North America are represented by a single genus, Coleophora, which contains approximately 144 described species. All are external seed or leaf miners that inhabit portable silk cases during most of the larval stage. Architectural and ecological characters from larval cases were used in cladistic analysis to investigate existing case-groups for 32 North American species of Coleophora. Cladistic analysis confirmed monophyly of certain case groups, but not of others. Host plant preferences were also examined. The pattern of host plant use reflects more closely preference for certain plant tissues (seeds versus leaves) and growth forms (herbaceous versus woody) with exploitation of different plant taxa, rather than preference for certain plant taxa with exploitation of different plant tissues. http://swamp.ag.ohio-state.edu/current research.html

Plant Associations
Map Unit Information Enter the plant association appropriate for the matching soil component. You can enter up to three plant associations per soil component in descending order of dominance. Dominant overstory, present and seral vegetation are a string of plants separated by commas and the last plant preceded with the word and. For example; pinyon, juniper and blue grama. These strings can be add/edit from either Plant Association Information or Range Site Information. The tree button at the top of the toolbar allows you four ways to query site vegetation canopy cover data: 1. Vegetation summary by map unit and plant association. 2. Vegetation summary by map unit and soil 3. Vegetation summary by map unit, soil and plant association 4. Vegetation summary by plant association. Currently these queries discard species that have no canopy cover value. These queries assume that each site has a map unit ID, plant association name and a soil name.

DPlume Teanaway Ecosystem Project Documentation and Data Now on File with Boise Cascade, Timberland Resources. Summary of Structure, Density, Plant Associations and ELU GIS data acquisition and processing Let us state up front, the final layers of interest in the data base are: /tean/dat-sp/veg/ Structure, density and plant association classes combine to make ecological land units(ELU). This is the essence of the classification system represented by the Ecological Diversity Matrix(EDM). In the Teanaway, data exists at the stand level that may be reclassified into ELUs. This solution does not exist, however, for the larger landscape characterized in this project. The Central East Cascades Ecosystem (CE) is comprised of nearly 2 million acres of land east of the Cascades crest and west of the Columbia basin shrub steppe. The boundary for this area dictates the limit of spatial data gathered for the project. It is the limiting agent for our final structure (STR), density (DEN) and plant association classes (PAC). In our final data compilations the name of the final version of the ecosystem boundary is These data exist both in grid and vector format and may be found in /tean/dat-sp/lim.
