4-0 out of 5 stars a good reference
This is a good reference for anyone interested in information on theeffects of plant poisoning. It is obviously written for people in themedical profession and will be a bit over the top for anyone who isn'tfamiliar with medical vocabulary. The only shortcomings I have found withthis is the lack of definative information on the amounts necessary foreffects to be seen and the lack of emergency measures to be taken in caseof poisoning. It is a shame that this book is currently out of print.Itis certainly worth hunting down at the local library or used book store. ... Editorial Review

Product Description
This benchmark text integrates the recent revolution in the molecular-developmental genetics of plants with mainstream evolutionary thought. There is increasing co-operation between strongly genomics-influenced researchers, with their strong grasp of technology, and evolutionary morphogenetists and systematics who are more deeply rooted in comparative biology and patterns of plant evolution. This book discusses our increasing understanding of gene function and expression, along with modern phylogenies integrating morphological and molecular data to highlight specific key transitions in plant evolution most worthy of intensive study. Furthermore, it explores increasing knowledge of the physical expression of plant development from disciplines such as anatomy and palaeobotany. Rather than focus on the technical aspects of plant genomics, this book provides genuinely integrated explanations of plant evolution.
This leading panel of contributors have succeeded in turning a demanding subject into an accessible volume for a wide range of professional botanists and postgraduate and senior undergraduates in developmental biology, applied molecular biology, molecular evolution, morphogenesis, organismal botany and theoretical systematics. ... In a recent past times, the knowledge about the organisms was based upon morphological characters. They were agruped or separeted by yours diferences or similarities.Today, the morphological features yet posses a great amount, but the molecular data about the organisms in general sense, and the plants in a specific vision, bring to discussion a new view about the plant organization. The Hollingsworth et al. book's brings to botanical community, the most recent concepts about plant phylogeny and evolution. Editorial Review

Product Description
Demand for the conservation of rapidly disappearing plants and ecological communities has provided botanists, systematists, and computer scientists with a unified goal--the production of a computer-based information checklist for all of the world's plants. Progress has been rapid in recent years. From a diverse array of disconnected systems and databases, there now exists a single, internationally supervised organization that is working to create an Internet accessible "common directory" of existing databases and a computer-based vascular plants action list. This book details the proceedings of that organization's symposium which examined the wide range of options open to the biodiversity community in creating a global plant species information system.Questions addressed include how an effective single taxonomic catalog and reference system can be conceived and implemented; what computer system, software, and data structures might enable both contributions from many sites and global access to the information; and how the needs of the biodiversity, conservation, pharmaceutical, agrochemical, biotechnology, and plant breeding communities can be met by using the plant catalog as a backbone for a variety of other databases of applied botanical data. This volume will be welcomed by all those in the fields of biodiversity and conservation who want to follow the details of this stimulating and important endeavor. ... Read more
