This book aims at the development of an institutional approachto general economic equilibrium. It is argued that general equilibriumtheory forms a well-rounded basis for the development of aninstitutional economic theory. The fundamental economic trademechanism underlying this re-focusing is that of the Edgeworthianbarter mechanism modeled through the equilibrium notion of the core ofan economy. In the first part a summary of the well-establishedinsights regarding the core of an economy is given. Next the bookexplores the extensive literature that links the core with theWalrasian price mechanism through core convergence results, thecomparison of core allocations with Walrasian equilibrium allocations,and equivalence results. In the second part an alternative model of Edgeworthian barter in thesetting of a large institutionally structured economy is developed.Two new Edgeworthian equilibrium concepts are considered -- thesemi-core and the contract-core. WOW!I thought I was going to get a book that had some good stories in it and that was that.I was wrong!This book has incredible stories that teach lesson after lesson, in just the listening.Increase your children's character by reading these to them and discussing the theme / moral afterward.I'm not in the least bit sorry I bought this book and it's companion "Moral Tales" by the same author! ...
