Extractions: The mathematical works of Lars Ahlfors and Lipman Bers are fundamental and lasting. They have influenced and altered the development of twentieth century mathematics. The personalities of these two scientists helped create a mathematical family and have had a permanent positive effect on a whole generation of mathematicians. Their mathematical heritage continues to lead succeeding generations. In October 1995 a series of conferences to be held triannually, was inaugurated at the Graduate Center of CUNY under the name The Bers Colloquium. The theme was to be a topic in the Ahlfors-Bers mathematical tradition, broadly interpreted. The theme of that meeting was The legacy of Lipman Bers . Talks were presented by Clifford Earle, Peter Jones, Curt McMullen, Dan Mostow, Louis Nirenberg, and Dennis Sullivan. One year later, after the death of Lars Ahlfors, it was decided to change the name of the series to The Ahlfors-Bers Colloquium.

Denna bild från korridorens förmodligen första, men inte längre enda grillfest inomhus (sida med mer om detta under uppbyggnad) framkallades för över tio år sedan, närmare bestämt den 23 juli 1984. Tidningen på bilden är antagligen en Expressen och texten UBÅT är skriven med versaler på första sidan. För oss i korridoren, som länge beundrat den unge mannens initiativförmåga, har det aldrig känts riktigt tillfredsställande att inte veta vem han är. Frågorna hopar sig: och sist men absolut inte minst Vem är mannen och vad gör han nu?
