http://faculty.goucher.edu/eng211/george_herbert.htm
George Herbert, The Temple Genre: sacred lyric collection imitating the architectural structure of a church while tracing the story of the persona's struggle with faith. Form: extraordinary metrical experiments, including "shaped poems," the most famous of which are "The Altar" and "Easter Wings." The book as a whole also has the form of a spiritual autobiography in lyrics, sacralizing the sonnet cycle's obsessive narration of the Lover-Beloved relationship and redirecting its interest in philosophy to the limitations of will-directed reason and the power of faith to command the believer. Characters: Herbert's persona is almost indistinguishable from his historical one, except that some of these poetic situations clearly are fanciful, and the personae of "Love," "God," "heart," arise from the medieval allegorical tradition but transcend it by means of Herbert's dexterous and surprising ability to make them psychological forces as well as metaphysical phenomena. Summary: Herbert's struggle tends to reflect his personal ambitions for a worldly life which were set against the demands of his rural parsonage at Bemerton. His ambition raised him from the fifth son of a dead Welch father to a member of Parliament and of the faculty of Cambridge. But the death of patrons led him to reconsider his objectives, and his last 3 years he lived as a poor country parson and wrote all the poems in

Warnock CHAPTER 5 - THE TEMPLE OF ZERUBBABEL W e are not going to deal with the Temple of Zerubbabel at length because we dealt with it in a previous writing ( The Feast of Tabernacles ). But we will comment upon it briefly so as to keep the continuity of the seven temples, showing how in God's plan and purpose He would continue to move from Tent to Tent, until He finds for Himself a true habitation in the Spirit. "Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; And hear, O earth, the words of my mouth" (Deut. 32:1). Moses would declare unto the heavens a word that would reveal the wisdom of God. David cried unto God, and as we have observed, the very heavens mobilized their forces for battle. Joshua commanded the sun and the moon to stand still. Ezekiel prophesied unto "the wind" over the dry bones, "Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain that they may live," and the dead bones began to arise and stand in battle array. Paul was known in heavenly places. Because of his life and his identification with the Cross, he penetrated the world of darkness, and even spirits cried out: "Jesus I know, and Paul I know..." For when Paul spoke the heavens heard what he said, and when he walked in obedience to the Lord and in the sufferings of the Cross, the world of darkness became aware of it, bringing great fear upon them.

DEDICATION OF THE ST. GEORGE TEMPLE
Interview given by Mrs. Maggie Cragun I went to the dedication of the temple in January 1777. President Brigham Young was present. President Young said that the doctors had told him he had gout, anyway he was lame and had to use a cane. He was carried up into the Temple in a big chair. People thought that he would not be able to talk but he was. Just on the outskirts of town the people built an arbor for President Young to pass under as he entered town. People from far and near went out and greeted him, and then followed the procession down to the Temple. President Young was not planning on speaking, but before the meeting was finished he spoke to the people. He raised up on the stand, and brought his cane down very hard on the pulpit. He said, "If I mar the pulpit some of these good workmen can fix it up again." He did mar the pulpit but the people did not fix it up again. They left it for a mark to be carried down through the years. When the meeting had been dismissed they began to file out of the building. Just as it was dismissed a terrible wind began to blow. The people began to crowd one and another trying to get out the building because they thought something was going to happen. Then President Young again stood up and said, "Sit down and calm yourselves and let the devil roar." The devil did roar for perhaps two hours or more doing much destruction in its fury. It upset buggies, tore trees up, and did much damage to everything in general. The devil tried his best to discourage the people, but he had found that he had met up with a stronger opposition than he could overcome.

After the martyrdom of Joseph Smith, the Saints were led from Nauvoo to the site of modern day Salt Lake City. It was not too long afterwards that Brigham Young directed the Saints to expand their growth into other areas. One of those areas was modern day, Saint George, Utah. The Saints were then directed to build a temple in Saint George Utah. The Temple at Saint George is the first temple constructed in Utah. It was dedicated on April 6, 1877. This page contains a sample of the best digital photos and pictures that we have taken of the Saint George, Utah, Temple.
