Funny Money On The March (Conspiracy Nation, 4/13/02) See the march of money, through time. The World Of Mathematics , by James Roy Newman, Vol. I). The Arabic numeral system was a new toy for mathematicians to play with. John Napier (1550- 1617) looked "with the eyes of a Greek-trained mathematician upon this (Arabic) notation as upon a new plaything." ("The Great Mathematicians," by Herbert Westren Turnbull. qtd. in Newman, op. cit.) And while true that the Arabic system introduced a "great spirit of economy" (Jourdain, op. cit.) to what was already understood, the new number system began to spawn abstractions, not necessarily connected with reality. But, "Go on," said the mathematicians, "and faith will come to you." The new Arabic numeral system spawned, in turn, banking houses, which sprang up in north Italian city-states such as Florence, Venice, and Genoa. ( The History of Money , by Jack Weatherford) The Arabic numeral system brought mathematics to the masses; it "democratized mathematics." (J.D. Bernal, qtd. in Weatherford, op. cit.) Previously, mathematics had been like a leisure-time activity, enjoyed only by the idle class. Mathematical discoveries had been "treasured as family secrets, only to be divulged to a few intimate disciples." (Turnbull, op. cit.) The new system of notation was quickly seized by the commercial class. Double- entry bookkeeping was invented, itself another system initially connected with reality but tending to spawn abstractions.

International Bridge Press Association Referred to as the IBPA, this is a worldwide organization of several hundred of professional bridge writers. Their reports and series and articles appear in newspapers and magazined and other publications around the world, where bridge tournaments and bridge events occur. This group also includes authors, radio hosts and even television hosts. In order to become a part of this prestigious organization, membership is required. The European Bridge Press, or the EBP, founded in 1958 at the Oslo 1958 European Championships by the jounalists, was created first to represent these goals of reporting bridge events and eventually evolved into the Internation Bridge Press Association. At the first Olympiad, played in 1960 in Turin, Italy, so many journalists from around the world joined in the cause and thus the organization was renamed. The Presidents of the International Bridge Press Association: Guy Ramsey Ranik Halle Jack Kelly Richard Frey Alan Truscott Rene Ducheyne Tommy Sandsmark Henry Francis The main features of the International Bridge Press Association include many of the following items, but are not restricted to only those listed.

Mr. Worthington: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether former Government troops are re-entering Rwanda; and what Column 873 action is being undertaken by the Government of Zaire to prevent this. Mr. Baldry: There have been unconfirmed reports of minor incursions across the Zaire-Rwanda border in the north-east and south-east sectors by armed bandits, some of whom are thought to be members of the former Government army. Zaire's Government have asked for UN assistance in providing security in the refugee camps and to help segregate former military and militia from ordinary refugees. A UN report with recommendations is expected shortly.

Abstract
Table of Contents Introduction Part I Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Part II Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Part III Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Part IV Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Part II: Philosophy:The Contribution of the Indo-Europeans Chapter 6 THE UN-INVENTIVENESS OF INDO-EUROPEANS It is well established that Science drew far more from Technology during the first few centuries of its development than it ever contributed, as the third volume of Singer's History of Technology makes clear. Stafford Hatfield remarks that Scientists have in fact invented remarkably little - except in ideas. Thus of the 21 presidents of the Royal Society, only 4 invented anything, and of 174 recipients of the Copley Medal, only 12 invented anything. Moreover, a consideration of these 'inventions' shows that they were sometimes more in the nature of extensions of existing ideas than truly original contributions. As Hatfield puts it, "superficially regarded, the scientist is discovering what is there, while the inventor is creating what has never existed before."
He does not feel this is absolutely true, for it makes such 'inventions' accidental by-products of a search for something else. This is by no means the case in applied research, but pure Science must surely result in 'accidental' discoveries in this sense, rather than in inventions. It thus gives us one clear distinction between Science and Technology.

Standing committee on Bill C-7 heads to Manitoba Winnipeg and Thompson slated for public hearings By Len Kruzenga
While previous attempts to amend the Indian Act in 1968 and then again in the late 1990s ended up in the parliamentary equivalent of a landfill site, INAC Minister Robert Nault's legislative foray appears to have an increasing sense of inevitability to it.
This even as the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs winds its way across the nation to conduct public hearings on the proposed Bill C-7 legislation, commonly referred to as the First Nations Governance Act (FNGA). Full Story

Life in scientific context
Frege, Gottlob Friedrich Ludwig: born 8th November 1848 at Wismar (Mecklenburg/Germany); died 26th July 1925 at Bad Kleinen (south of Wismar). 1) Today it is at least undisputed that Frege was the real founder of modern (mathematical) logic, i.e. he is considered the most important logician since Aristotle. 3) Furthermore Frege is considered as the founder of philosophical logic and the attitutde to analyse language under philosophical-semantical aspects (philosophy of language), which means that in this respect he can at least be considered as the grandfather of a modern, linguistically orientated analytical philosophy. ). From 1879 to 1918 he was professor at Jena - in1879 he was made extraordinary and in 1896 ordinary honorary professor. During his lifetime he received little scientific acknowledgment and he died fairly embittered.
