Words: Thomas Aquinas (1227-1274) ( Pange lingua gloriosi corporis mysterium ); translated from Latin to English by Edward Caswall Lyra Catholica Music: John F. Wade Cantus Diversi MIDI score If you know where to get a picture of John Wade, please click here
Of His flesh the mystery sing,
Of the blood, all price exceeding,
Shed by our immortal King,
From a noble womb to spring. Of a pure and spotless virgin,
Born for us, His love to show,
He, as man, with man conversing,
Stayed, the seeds of truth to sow;
Then He closed in wondrous fashion,
This His life on earth below. On the night of that Last Supper,
Seated with His chosen band, He, the paschal victim eating, Then as food to all His brethren Gives Himself with His own hand. Christ, the Word made Flesh, by speaking, Earthly bread to flesh He turns; Unconceived in human terms! Hearts sincere perceive this marvel; Faith its lessons quickly learns. Down in adoration falling, This great sacrament we hail; Over ancient forms of worship Newer rites of grace prevail; Faith tells us that Christ is present When our human senses fail.

    HISTORY.
    The town of Holywood is situated on the southern or Co. Down shore of Belfast Lough. To the south of the town are hills rising to a height of 659 feet with well wooded slopes. The town is about nine miles from the centre of Belfast.
    Mason's Statistical Survey 1819 says of Holywood "The summers are tempered by cool refreshing breezes which render the air peculiarly salubrious at that season. The inhabitants are generally healthy and robust."
    The survey also states of Holywood "It contains 153 houses besides places of worship, and contains a population of 600 persons. This village is remarkable for being much superior in neatness to the generality of other villages. It is much frequented as a bathing place in summer being close to the sea shore.
    ST. LAISERAN.
    The history of Holywood, through meagre in detail, dates from very early times. In the graveyard at the east end of the town, are the ruins of the Abbey Church. This Abbey Church replaced an earlier church founded by St. Laiseran before the year 640. Of this St. Laiseran very little is known. His feast kept on October 25th. He was the son of Nasca a local princess, and after him the town is named "Ard Mac-Nasca"-the height of the son of Nasca, i.e. the height of St. Laiseran. The actual position of the height is uncertain recent research would indicate that it was the high land near the Twistle bridge leading to Church Avenue.

    HOLLYWOOD BLACKOUT
    The film industry says all the right things, but its continued exclusion of African-Americans is a national disgrace PEOPLE Magazine March 18, 1996 With the academy awards two weeks away, we are taking an intensive look this week at one side of Hollywood rarely exposed to bright lights: racial discrimination. "The exclusion of minorities from the film industry is one of Hollywood’s dirty little secrets," says senior writer Pam Lambert, who wrote our cover story. "Despite the stars all of us can name, once you get behind the scenes, blacks remain the invisible men and women." Four months ago a team of PEOPLE correspondents in Los Angeles began interviewing black and white actors, actresses and filmmakers about racism in Hollywood. Our first reporting came from national correspondent Lois Armstrong, who in 21 years with PEOPLE had already interviewed such prominent black stars as LeVar Burton, Billy Dee Williams, Danny Glover and Blair Underwood. Then staff correspondents Karen Brailsford, Betty Cortina, Johnny Dodd, Lynda Wright and Paula Yoo called 130 sources and gathered more than 60 interviews. Meanwhile, in New York City, reporting was coordinated by two of our newest senior editors: Mari McQueen, who joined PEOPLE from New York Newsday in October; and Howard Karren, who came from

Since the start of Boatline in 1997 the aim primarily has been to provide a free service to private boat owners who wish to sell or buy. Over the years there has been a huge response to this conception and as you can see the vast percentage of the categories on the site are being well used. Recently Boatline has had a make-over with a better page layout, making posting and removing Ads more straightforward. Barrington Blues vs Castlereagh Colts Match report by John Wareing, ClubTreasurer. An excellent start to the season by the Colts securing a 1-1 draw against last seasons champions. A goal behind at half time due to sloppy defensive work the lads worked hard to equalise with a brilliant free kick from Arron Hoy. The defence was solid, midfield worked hard and our forwards never gave up. Man of the match was Ian Mannus who brought off many great saves including a brilliant tip over the bar just before full time helping us to a well deserved point. Bangor Swifts vs Castlereagh Colts  Match report by John Wareing, Club Treasurer. A great start to the game with Colin Patterson scoring early but Bangor equalised soon after to a silly defensive blunder. Further well taken goals by James Ferguson and another by Arron Hoy put us in a commanding position of 3-1 at the interval. Second half sub Neal McNab scored a very good goal to make the final score 4-1 to the Colts. Our defence again was excellent and midfield worked tirelessly. Forwards worked well but missed plenty of chances. My man of the match was Craig Gibson who never put a foot wrong. Congratulations to Ricky Fitzsimmons who did a great job ref 'in.
