The "Tree" Reports use ahnentafel numbers. The primary individual in my main family history tree is my daughter Alexandra George Mair who is number (1) A person's father's number is twice that of the person so I am Ed Mair (2), my father is George Fisk Mair (4), my grandfather is George Mair (8) and so on. A wife has the number of her husband + 1. Evelyn Thurber Mair (9) is my grandmother. I have keyed photo descriptions to these ahnentafel numbers.
When browsing a tree, you may press the letter F to pop up an index of available individuals. Double click an individual in the index and the Tree will jump to their box location. Single click on an individual's box and press the letter D to pop up details on that individual including an ahnentafel number. Happy browsing!
I am working on all four of my grandparents' family histories. They are George Mair (8) born in Scotland, Evelyn Thurber (9) born in New Jersey, Granville Baum (10) born in Virginia, and Katherine Conover (11) born in New Jersey.

    Student-Built Solar Greenhouse Grand Opening
Set For Friday At Welsh Hills School, Granville
A collaborative project between Denison University and The Welsh Hills School comes to fruition at 3 p.m. on Friday (May 3) the grand opening of a solar greenhouse and solar electric demonstration system being constructed by students from both schools. The event will be held at the Welsh Hills School, 2610 Newark-Granville Road in Granville, Ohio. DU student Amanda Sage '02 drills while Jen Firth '02 holds one of the posts for the new solar greenhouse. The project was initially established jointly by Abram W. Kaplan, associate professor and director of environmental studies at Denison University, and Evelyn Hoyt Frolking, head of Welsh Hills School. Each spring, the graduating senior environmental studies majors at Denison gather for a last class together, a community-based, hands-on seminar focused on a single real-world project. Each year the class takes on a different "client," and engages in a project that hopes to make a difference and integrate the education the students have obtained during their Denison career. This term, Kaplan's class has been working with the Welsh Hills School, a small independent school in Granville, to raise energy awareness and create two tangible elements that will help to foster school activities and teaching in the years to come. These elements are a solar electric demonstration system (part of the national "Solar Schools" program) and a greenhouse to support on-going gardening efforts at the school. The Denison students have been teaching the WHS students on a regular basis (a few hours per week) and have developed curricula, specified the greenhouse design, obtained a contractor/educational-consultant, and prepared the WHS children for the construction process. For the last two weeks, the two groups have worked side by side, digging trenches, drilling holes, shoveling gravel, and now actually constructing the greenhouse itself. Discovering African American Mathematicians
    Introduction
Essential Question Task Part One ... Worksheet
Introduction: Everyday, the work of mathematicians and scientists add a wealth of new knowledge and abilities to the
technology of our society. Many mathematicians have devoted their entire lives to study and research in just
one small area of mathematics. African Americans have made significant contributions to the field of
mathematics and science. This webquest will focus on the lives, research and advancements of these African
Americans that have added so much to the technology of our society. Essential Question: Who are some of the more famous African American mathematicians, and in what fields of
mathematics have they made a significant impact? Task: During this webquest you will learn about the lives, research and advancements of some African American
mathematicians. Follow the instructions in each of the four parts to complete each section. Complete each
section before moving on to the next one.

Persimmons Theatre presents EVELYN LAU - A LITERARY CABARET Saturday. June 27 Hycroft Wellness Centre ENFANT TERRIBLE OF CANADIAN POETRY SENDS A MIXED MESSAGE by Roxanne Davies Although I had read about Evelyn Lau, author, poet and fiction writer, read her poetry, viewed the CBC docudrama entitled Runaway: Diary of a Street Kid , a chronicle of her life of drugs and prostitution and her development into a published writer, I had never seen her in person. When the invitation to attend a fundraiser for one-year old Persimmons Theatre came along, I jumped at the chance. With a sense of voyeuristic anticipation, I headed over to Granville and 16th to take part in the literary evening. What was I expecting? I wondered. I didn't count many prostitutes (former or otherwise) as my friends, although I did know of some middle class wives who may perhaps fall in that category. Sad and unfulfilled, bought and paid for. But if I was expecting a young and wanton female with the imprints of men's hands still impressed on her still young body, what I saw was a slightly chubby, pretty 20 -something, dressed in a modest black checkered Bermuda shorts, black sweater, and sensible shoes. Flawless skin, pouty lips, thick hair. Rather a prim and proper garb for a woman whose claim to fame (besides her often sparkling poetry/ prose and being the youngest poet to ever be nominated for the Governors General 's Award) is that she was a child prostitute.

    Granville Wiley Outten
The third child of John P. and Lida R. Outten was Granville Wiley. He was born at Rock Hall, Maryland, November 17, 1898, and attended the public schools wherever his father was serving as pastor. He began his school work in Wilmington in 1911, and while in the Senior Class at the High School he was recommended to the University of Maryland, where he began the study of Dentistry in 1917. When the World War came on, he was drafted, but he was permitted to continue his studies at the University, and received his instructions at a training camp near Baltimore. When the war closed he received an honorable discharge, but a few weeks later he was stricken with influenza while rooming at the Y.M.C.A. in Baltimore. He was examined by a specialist and it was found that he was suffering with Tuberculosis. As soon as he was able to be moved he was taken to his home on Deals Island, Maryland. Then after he recovered from his attack of influenza, he taught school at Vaughn School House, near Laurel, until he was appointed a mail carrier in Laurel, and he continued on that job as long as he was able to work. He was married to Orpah Tankersley of Deals Island, Maryland, November 28, 1919, and they were the parents of three children. Their eldest child was Granville Wiley Jr. He was born December 23, 1929, and was less than four years old when his father died. After graduating at the Salisbury High School in 1938, he entered the Coast Guard Service and received his instructions at Curtis Bay near Baltimore. Then he was graduated from the Coast Guard College at New London, Connecticut, in Radio, and was sent to various stations on the Atlantic Coast. He was married to Miss Evelyn Still of Staten Island, New York, October 27, 1942, and he continued in the Coast Guard Radio work at Norfolk, Virginia, for several months. Then by request he received his discharge from the Coast Guard in 1945, and they now live in Salisbury, Maryland.

At age 21 supervised 1000 men in the building of a railway in South America. In the early 1890's went to Southern Africa for the purpose of prospecting. Meeting with little success he left South Africa and journeyed north to the Gwanda/Bulawayo region of Southern Rhodesia. Here he undertook a number of engineering works for Sir George Pauling, developer of the new Rhodesia Railways - being built to cross the recently settled territory. It is unclear when he left the region but sometime prior to WWI it is believed he had been building canals in Holland. RETURN TO index BACK
