Adobe Announces New Version Of InCopy, Delivering Powerful Writing Tools To Editorial Professionals InCopy 2.0 Elevates Standards and Saves Time for Deadline-Driven Editorial Community InCopy 2.0 is the result of feedback from systems integrators and customers and includes features that make the most of critical moments in a publishing cycle. InCopy streamlines the layout and editing process for writers, saving time and reducing approval cycles. In addition, formatting editorial copy is simplified for designers by using InDesign software to produce a professional page layout. The Boston Globe , New England's most widely read newspaper, met with Adobe engineers several times this year to discuss what InCopy 2.0 needs to provide for newspaper copy editors. "We have looked at several newspaper publishing systems, and InCopy shows the potential for delivering what copy editors need," said Ralph Brown, systems editor at The Boston Globe . "Adobe did a great job of listening to our specific needs - such as separate galley and page views - and turning them into InCopy features." Streamlining Publishing Workflows XML content has become an integral part of cross-media workflows. InCopy 2.0 provides writers and editors with the ability to create, import, edit and export stories in XML format. Because InCopy and InDesign share the same XML support, stories created in InCopy can be imported directly into InDesign. This separation of form and content also allows InCopy to create editorial content that can be used for many different media types in any type of workflow.

Home About Gannett News from Gannett Investor Relations ... Jobs TRAINERS AT WILMINGTON WRITERS' WORKSHOP OFFER THESE POINTERS John Sweeney, Public Editor, The News Journal, Wilmington, Del., compiled a dozen tips from various presentations at last month's Wilmington Writers' Workshop. NEWS WATCH shares these ideas here and urges top editors to circulate these tips widely among reporters and editors. Getting people to talk. When setting up an interview, be as clear as possible as to who you are and what the interview's purpose is. Express these things in a way that shows empathy for the interview subject's viewpoint. "My editor told me to interview you" indicates that you aren't particularly interested. "You were pivotal in bringing a major new business to our town, and I'd like to interview you for a feature article on you for my newspaper's business section" does. Source: Dr. Louise Reid Ritchie, psychologist. Tips for writing great profiles. Interview for understanding, facts, anecdotes and quotes, in that order. Ask provocative questions about character, values and motives. Writers get lost in the subject's resume. They tend to start by writing the resume. Don't do that. Write from the live person, not the dead resume. Put the resume stuff in a box before writing the main body. When you finish your draft, shorten it by 20 percent. Source: Don Fry, writing coach.

55. Ralph's Manual Of Style - Business - Why People Hate You
These evil ones (where have I heard this profound descriptive before?)pit the writers and copy editors against each other. The
http://www.geocities.com/ralphstyle/s-bus.html
Ralph's Business Guide for Editors (Really more of a make-you-feel-good guide, since there's not really much that can be done to improve an editor's "business.")
AUTHOR-COPY EDITOR RELATIONS One of the first things in the above title that the author, and more so the editor, is going to notice is that the word author comes first, which will cause the average author to hoist his—or her—chest out a little (perhaps we can skip the attempted political correctness and omit the her here, since the bit about the chest, while only metaphorical, probably makes the sentence politically incorrect with her anyway) and swagger on one foot, causing the copy editor to turn a pale shade of purple and begin hyperventilating. (As author and editor of this Web site, I am frankly dizzy and feeling carsick right now.) The solution of course is simple: “It is alphabetic.” But nothing is so simple as that. Here lies the problem: Copy editors tend to look upon writers as arrogant, conceited, overpaid, egotistical illiterates who cannot place commas with even the slightest of accuracy, and who got their revered positions as the result of some very un interesting degree or some very in teresting uncle or other relation.
