Hi all, I have not actually installed this yet, so this is my best guess. Stay tuned for further feedback. First are Konstantin's notes and then mine. You can, of course, get this from the Download Section of this site. I have created one single download zip file which includes a readme file and three zip files:
  • KonstantinKaratzas_Icons.zip
  • KonstantinKaratzas_Other.zip
  • KonstantinKaratzas_Sounds.zip
  • KonstantinKaratzas_Readme.txt In addition to downloading the KonstantinKaratzas_NapoleonicAndCivilWar.zip file (from the download section of this website), you will still need the original PG2 game and to download the map related files. Narayan

Cold War General Hi All, For those of you that don't know, I have been working in a big way on something new over the past several weeks: Cold War General. Cold War General will be set in the years 1987 to 1997, at least initially. I had to pick a 10 year period because of the scenario/battle generators that I have available to me, and both years had to end with "7" as that is something most of the scenario/battle generators do. Choosing 1977 to 1987 would have missed out on a bunch of great equipment. As I can get past this limitation, the equipment and the available time period will increase as well back into the 70s and 80s. I have selected the 1987 to 1997 time period because of the interesting amount of equipment that extends into some of the state of the art - such as stealth - equipment of the present. It will also gives the players and scenario designers the ability to transition through various "new era" scenarios, such as siding the Russians and Americans against the Chinese, etc. Although this aforementioned time period is not strictly the Cold War, I have yet to think of a better title, though Modern General comes to mind. I would be grateful for any alternative suggestions.

The man we know as Ulysses S. Grant was actually named Hiram Ulysses Grant. As a boy he was known as Lyss. Thomas Hamer, the Congrssman who appointed Grant to West Point, forgot all about Hiram. Remembering that Grant's mother's maiden name was Simpson and thinking that was Lyss Grant's middle name, he filled out the application in the name of "Ulysses S. Grant".
When Grant arrived at West Point and discovered that the Academy had him registered under the wrong name, he tried to get the error corrected. He was told that it didn't matter what he or his parents thought his name was, the official government application said his name was "Ulysses S." and that application could not be changed.
If Hiram U. Grant wanted to attend West Point, he would have to change his name. Biography:
Late in the administration of Andrew Johnson, Gen. Ulysses S. Grant quarreled with the President and aligned himself with the Radical Republicans. He was, as the symbol of Union victory during the Civil War, their logical candidate for President in 1868. When he was elected, the American people hoped for an end to turmoil. Grant provided neither vigor nor reform. Looking to Congress for direction, he seemed bewildered. One visitor to the White House noted "a puzzled pathos, as of a man with a problem before him of which he does not understand the terms."

Former Gulf War General Schwarzkopf Skeptical About U.S. Action in Iraq
Norman Schwarzkopf wants to give peace a chance. Washington Post - January 28, 2003
    By Thomas E. Ricks
    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Tuesday, January 28, 2003; Page C01
TAMPANorman Schwarzkopf wants to give peace a chance.
The general who commanded U.S. forces in the 1991 Gulf War says he hasn't seen enough evidence to convince him that his old comrades Dick Cheney, Colin Powell and Paul Wolfowitz are correct in moving toward a new war now. He thinks U.N. inspections are still the proper course to follow. He's worried about the cockiness of the U.S. war plan, and even more by the potential human and financial costs of occupying Iraq.
And don't get him started on Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.
In fact, the hero of the last Gulf War sounds surprisingly like the man on the street when he discusses his ambivalence about the Bush administration's hawkish stance on ousting Saddam Hussein. He worries about the Iraqi leader, but would like to see some persuasive evidence of Iraq's alleged weapons programs.
"The thought of Saddam Hussein with a sophisticated nuclear capability is a frightening thought, okay?" he says. "Now, having said that, I don't know what intelligence the U.S. government has. And before I can just stand up and say, 'Beyond a shadow of a doubt, we need to invade Iraq,' I guess I would like to have better information."

    MAJOR GENERAL JOHN BELL HOOD

Against the wishes of his father, a doctor who wanted John to follow in his footsteps, he had entered West Point, and graduated an undistinguished 44th out of 53 students in the Class of 1853. He served before the Civil War in frontier Texas with the cavalry unit commanded by Robert E. Lee. Lee became a mentor for the young Hood, a relationship which would be reestablished later when the two fought together in the Army of Northern Virginia. In Texas, Hood established his reputation as a brave, fierce soldier. In an Indian fight in 1857, when an arrow pinned his left hand to his bridle, he broke off the arrowhead and pulled out the shaft by the feathers and continued fighting. He was partially incapacitated by the wound for the next two years. Hood was serving near the Rio Grande when the Civil War broke out, and when his native Kentucky did not secede, he linked himself with his Texas troops. Sent to the Peninsula defenses, he began as a lowly cavalry lieutenant, but he was rapidly promoted, and by March 1862, when the Army of the Potomac arrived to threaten Richmond, he was a brigadier general at the head of the only brigade of Texans in the Virginia army, a brigade which he had personally drilled and instructed to high efficiency. He achieved his first notice for "conspicuous gallantry" out in front of his men in the skirmish at Eltham's Landing on May 7. At Gaines' Mill on June 27, he led a charge by the Texans that broke the Army of the Potomac's strong line, the most brilliant achievement of the entire Seven Days and one which won them renown as the fiercest combat troops in Lee's army.
