STATE NEWS... NEW SCHOOL SLATED TO OPEN THIS WEEK A new independent school is slated to open in Reading this week, headed by a former public school teacher who resigned his position amidst some controversy. Gary Hillard was a fifth and sixth grade teacher at the Reading Elementary School since 1996 but resigned several weeks ago after first being suspended. According to the January 29 Valley News, Hillard was suspended from teaching when parents complained that he challenged faster learners but left behind students with special needs.
