Friday, January 9, 1998 Draft Thai Internet Law Revised But Concerns Remain . The controversial Thai draft law to promote the Internet was revised significantly last week, with a third version of the draft appearing on the Internet Society's Thailand Chapter Web site last Friday. It included several new provisions, while others had been changed. However, the revised draft still advocates passing a law with sweeping powers, requiring Internet service providers (ISPs) and content providers to be licensed by a government committee. It would also make criticism of a foreign head of state on the Internet a criminal offense punishable by a possible prison term. The Internet Promotion Act will undergo its third and final public hearing on January 15, after which it will be submitted to the Minister of Communications for his consideration on January 30, according to chairman of ISOC Thailand Srisakdi Charmonmarn.
