Date: Thu, 17 Nov 1994 17:01:35 -0500 From: David Garrod [garrod@ECN.PURDUE.EDU] Subject: Re: Has the Texas visitation law been used? To the best of my knowledge, there is NO law, statute or even regulation from the feds requiring any enforcement of visitation. Texas has a statute, which was presumably passed because someone or some group lobbied for it. Whether or not it is enforced, is up to those that need it enforce. There ARE methods of getting things enforced..... almost always requiring one to be more of a pain than the act of bothering to enforce the law. If a visitation denial statute is not enforced in Texas, only reluctant NCPs are to blame. As an informational side-note: I came across a reference source the other day for all Texas statutes. telnet window.texas.gov other interesting legal sites that I check once in a while are: telnet fatty.LAW.cornell.edu

Types of Business Entities in Texas

by James J. Burnett
Attorney at Law Types of Business Entities in Texas NOTE: This article discusses business law matters of current note in the State of Texas according to Texas law. The author is not licensed to practice law in states other than Texas, and the following should not be taken as statements of what the law is outside that state. The General Partnership A general partnership is exactly that: An enterprise between two or more partners. It is perhaps the simplest of business entities. In Texas, two statutes are especially important concerning partnerships; The Texas Uniform Partnership Act and the Texas Revised Partnership Act. On this page, the term "partnership" means a general partnership. Different rules apply for limited partnerships. Forming a partnership is easy. All that one has to have is an association between two or more partners that they will associate for a common enterprise, and share the profits and losses from that enterprise. A partnership does not have to use a special name, and it does not have to file anything with the Secretary of State of Texas to begin its existence. A partnership may exist even when there is no written or oral agreement to form one; the mere association and sharing of profits and losses can create a partnership. A partnership may be perpetual in nature, although typically the partnership agreement limits its term.

Billing Changing Providers Choosing a Provider ...
Why Texas is Different

Q: What are the benefits of Texas Electric Choice?
A:
Texas’ electric rates are average, compared to the rest of the country, but our usage is among the highest in the nation due to demand for air conditioning during the long, hot summer season. Competition in other industries has often brought lower prices and innovative, new products and services. Having more control over your buying decision should make it easier to determine what matters most to you, whether it’s prices, renewable energy, customer service, or a name you know.
Electric competition should also help the environment because retail electric providers must offer some energy from renewable energy sources. Renewable energy such as wind, solar, hydroelectric and biomass (gas released from landfills), produce less air pollution than sources that rely on burning coal or natural gas.
The Texas power market is one of the most attractive in the country for new investment. Forty-seven new power plants have been built or are being built in Texas since 1995 (that’s almost one-fourth of all power plants being built or planned in the nation). The properties represent a $10 billion investment in Texas. These plants provide jobs and sales and tax revenue into local Texas communities.
Q: How will Texas Electric Choice affect electric rates?

http://library.law.smu.edu/resguide/TexAG.htm
OPINIONS OF THE TEXAS ATTORNEY GENERAL Underwood Law Library Southern Methodist University Guide 305 Under provisions set out in the Texas Constitution, the Texas Government Code, and numerous statutes, the Texas Attorney General is authorized to write advisory opinions for state and local officials. Agencies request these advisory opinions when they confront unique or unusually difficult legal questions. The Attorney General also determines, under authority of the Texas Open Records Act, whether information requested for release from governmental agencies may be withheld from public disclosure. The Texas Register publishes summaries of all opinions, requests for opinions, and open record decisions. The Attorney General responds to many requests for opinions and open records decisions with letter opinions. A letter opinion has the same force and effect as a formal Attorney General Opinion. It represents the opinion of the Attorney General unless and until it is modified or overruled by a subsequent letter opinion, a formal Attorney General Opinion, or a decision of a court of record.
