Conserve Texas
Adopt-A-Park, Historic Site, or Wildlife Management Area
Help with trail maintenance. Help restore native vegetation and wildlife habitat. Do a clean up. Create a trail guide. Build a footbridge. Help establish a site library. Take photographs for a display. Create a kiosk. Help construct fences or plant trees. Help people with disabilities experience our sites by creating an audiotape tour, make videotape, help build ramps and benches, etc. Lots of project choices. For more information, contact: 512-389-4415.
Adopt-A-Wetland
Teachers can learn how to implement this wetland education program teaching youth (K-12) about the ecological importance of wetlands. Combines Aquatic WILD with resource information and "hands-on" field data collecting techniques. Opportunity for students to "adopt" local wetland and monitor plants, animals and water quality. Free. Contact: 361-825-3221 or www.sci.tamucc.edu/aawp/welcome.htm
Adopt-A-Prairie Chicken
Once numbering in the millions, Attwater's prairie chickens have disappeared as their habitat has disappeared. They are Texas's most endangered species. The year 2000 count estimated only 50 prairie chickens left in the wild. A tax-deductible gift of $25 will cover the cost of feeding one Prairie Chicken chick from the time of hatching until it is old enough to eat commercial food, helping this species from extinction. Contact: 512-389-4644.
