"Translation costs the earth, and you can never get to speak to the person who actually does the job!"
Well, it doesn't actually have to be like that. Come directly to the people who do the job. We'll listen to you, talk to you, ask questions, find out about your business and exactly what is special about it. If there's something we don't know we'll ask you, something you won't get if there is a third party in the way. When you place a translation with an agency, the work is not usually done in-house by that company. Almost all translations are sourced out to freelances like us. The agency takes a large margin they have to, to cover all their marketing costs and premises.

Swedish language
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Swedish is a language spoken in Sweden and Finland . Swedish is a one of the Scandinavian languages, a sub-group of the Germanic group of the Indo-European language family. Swedish is closely related to and often mutually intelligible with Danish and Norwegian . Swedish and Danish are both East Scandinavian languages, while Norwegian is a West Scandinavian language. However, due to the long Danish rule of Norway , Norwegian (especially written Norwegian) has been heavily influenced by Danish. As a result, Danish and Norwegian may in practice be considered somewhat more similar to each other than either is to Swedish. In addition, due to Danish pronunciation, Swedes usually find it easier to understand Norwegian than Danish. And even if a Swede finds it difficult to understand a Dane it is not necessarily the other way around. All three languages diverged from Old Norse about a millennium ago.

INFORMATION
The Program in Swedish Language Studies and Swedish Comparative Literature at Columbia University The purpose of the program in Swedish language studies and Swedish comparative literature at Columbia University is to initiate in students a continuing relationship with the people of Sweden and with those speaking Swedish elsewhere in the world. It is believed that this relationship can best be encouraged by providing a solid foundation in the Swedish language, supplemented with additional courses that address both similarities and differences between Swedish and other Nordic cultures, especially through the perspectives of literature and film.

Graduate and Postgraduate Language Studies
Swedish Language / Scandinavian Languages (120 ECTS credits) The Scandinavian Languages / Swedish Language programme is intended for students who have begun their studies of Swedish abroad and who wish to continue their studies in Finland. The programme is carried out by the Department of Scandinavian Languages at the University of Vaasa. The Department of Scandinavian Languages at the University of Vaasa offers the following programmes (80 credits each), which all emphasise modern languages:
  • Swedish
  • Swedish as a Mother Tongue
  • Scandinavian Languages
Finland has two official languages, Finnish and Swedish. About six per cent of the total population speak Swedish as their mother tongue. Therefore the department offers two Swedish Language programmes, one of which is intended for students with Swedish as their second language and the other for students with Swedish as their mother tongue. The Scandinavian Languages programme is intended for students with Swedish as their second language. The study programmes are made up of four units, each representing 20 credits: basic studies, subject studies, advanced level studies and the MA thesis. Each international student will have an individually drawn up programme chosen mainly from the courses offered by the department. The programme (major subject) Swedish (as a second language) focuses on language for special purposes, multilingualism / language immersion and translation. Scandinavian Languages includes courses in the other Scandinavian languages and in Scandinavian culture and literature. Swedish as a Mother Tongue focuses on modern Swedish, in particular for special purposes. The instruction is carried out in Swedish, and students therefore need to have a working knowledge of Swedish on their arrival in Vaasa.

Swedish is one of the Germanic languages of Europe. Hence, it is related to English and German. As English is the first foreign language taught in Sweden, most people both speak and understand English. However, for exchange students, we recommend you to learn at least some Swedish to further enjoy your stay here. Learning a new language is always a rewarding experience. There is an optional Swedish language course offered at no cost in addition to the normal study programme. This 5 point (7.5 ECTS) course in Swedish will help you assimilate better into Swedish life. Teaching is carried out in various forms such as lectures, seminars, group work, laboratory work and independent studies. This course has limited enrolment on a first come, first served basis. You apply for the optional Swedish language course in the application form.
