What are the Regional Resource Centers?
The six Regional Resource Centers (RRCs) are specifically funded to assist state education agencies in the systemic improvement of education programs, practices, and policies that affect children and youth with disabilities. The RRCs help states and U.S. jurisdictions find integrated solutions for systemic reform, offering consultation, information services, technical assistance, training, and product development. Nutrition Policy Statement
The South Dakota State Board of Education recognizes that:
  • Good health is a major contributor to the learning process, and alertness in the classroom is directly related to daily nutrition intake; Good nutrition is required for growing bodies, and to maintain healthy bodies; Healthy bodies and minds contribute to readiness to learn and to a decrease in the school dropout rate; Education plus development of appropriate behavior patterns will lead to life-long health; Not all children receive adequate daily nutrition; and Modern school food service programs are more complex and must meet Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
  • To assure the health and well-being of all students, the State Board believes that:
  • All schools should be encouraged to participate in the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program where appropriate. School Food Service Programs should model healthy eating habits by offering students an attractive variety of highly nutritious foods and meals that meet the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
