ABOUT US
BOARD MEMBERS
Nepal, The land of the Himalayas in spite of being small in size, is immensely rich on biological diversity and for centuries the friendly people of this nation have been coexisting with its natural environment in a dynamic harmony by adopting diverse indigenous practices.
But, with rapid increase in human population, the vicious cycle of poverty and depletion of natural resources has became a fact of life, for majority of Nepalese people. This combined with unsustainable and ill planned development, changing consumption pattern, unplanned urbanization and improper management of the environment have resulted in impacts of grave consequences.
It is with such background in mind that a group of professionals with experiences across the board established an autonomous, non governmental, non profit oriented organization named "Forum for Environmental management and Research – Nepal" in short FERN INTRODUCTION OBJECTIVES CHOOSE TOPICS PUBLICATIONS ... Metropolitan Area Surface Water Management
Purpose: To protect surface water resources through the adoption and implementation of local water management plans based on watershed district and watershed management organization priorities. History: In 1982, the legislature approved the Metropolitan Surface Water Management Act. The act was originally included in chapter 509 (and was commonly referred to as "509" planning) and was later recodified as M.S. 1. ( See Minnesota Statutes Chapter 103B Since passage of the act, all local units of government in the seven-county metropolitan area have been involved in the preparation and implementation of comprehensive surface water management plans through membership in a watershed management organization, a joint powers agreement between the cities and townships within a natural watershed, or a watershed district, a separate local unit of government also based on natural watershed boundaries. Originally, the former Water Resources Board oversaw implementation of the act. When that board was merged with two other boards to form the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources in 1987, the Board of Water and Soil Resources assumed responsibility for the act. Forty-six watershed management organizations (36 joint powers WMOs and 10 WDs; now there are 24 WMOs and 13 WDs) were originally responsible for preparing plans to:

Swamps Scheme photos Content Potentials Environment ... Links A Web site by Adriaan van den Eelaart in support of ISDP (Integrated Swamp Development Project) IBRD Loan 3755-IND Reclaimed Swampland in Indonesia is situated in the coastal areas and its environment is mainly influenced by the tidal movements of the sea, estuaries and tidal rivers. It is part of the Coastal Environment and the water management of the Swamp Schemes is little influenced by its hinterland. The main aim of this Web site is to present a balanced view of Conservation and Development in the Coastal Tidal Wetlands of Indonesia. Come and See the Swamps of Indonesia! Acid Sulphate Soils and Peat soils. In the coastal zones of Indonesia there are 6-8 million ha of mineral and peaty soils, containing pyrite. (Acid Sulphate soils) and there are about 16 million ha of deep Peat soils. That makes Indonesia the country with the far largest area of pyritic soils in the world and one of the largest with peat soils. Reclamation and Development of both soil types is very environmental sensitive. That fact resulted in the recent past in intense discussions whether these wetland/swamp areas should be protected against any type of reclamation. In my opinion a discussion, pro or contra, that is not effective, because these lands are opened up anyhow at a very fast rate. In my believe
