Because hundreds of bonefish have made their home around Cayo Espanto, the angler will usually find great success all around the island. The hard sea-bottom immediately around the island provides for unusually easy wading. In addition to wading around the island, guests may hire a guide and boat for some wonderful flats fishing for bonefish, tarpon and permit. Scuba Diving The second largest barrier reef in the world is not to be missed. Cayo Espanto is within 15-20 minutes of some of the world's best and most famous dive sites. Private trips are easily arranged or guest may choose to dive with our dive shop in San Pedro.

In other words, when you hit the water, whether it be for the first or the hundredth time, it is what you will need to be wearing. A total diving system can basically be broken up into four subsystems, including the following items: Personal Snorkeling System

Talking about scuba diving and snorkeling
General
Introductory diving
If you have no diving experience but still want to check it out without spending lots of money or time, you can hire a diving instructor to do an introductory dive with you. This means about ten minutes of explanations and a one-hour, 10 meter dive where the instructor always stays at your side. To be able to dive in places where there is no instructor, you absolutely need a little easy but important training and some safety instructions.
Beginner's course
You can get the training and instructions by doing a beginner's course. Such a course usually takes about 4 days and includes 6-7 dives and theory lessons. The first few dives are supposed to take place in "confined water" such as a swimming pool, but if there isn't any swimming pool around it'll just take place in shallow water in the sea. The diving instructor should be member of one of the two world-wide scuba diving associations PADI and CMAS , otherwise he/she's just some self-proclaimed quack. If in doubt, ask to see his/her certificate. Depending on the instructor's association the course is either according to PADI's or to CMAS's rules, which are pretty much the same. If you pass the theoretical and practical "final exams" (nothing really to worry about), you will get a card certifying you as an "Open Water Diver" (PADI) or "1 star diver" (CMAS). With such a certificate you are allowed to dive alone, where "alone" really only means without an instructor, because the number one diving safety rule is that you should always have a diving buddy with you.

In Costa Rica, places abound to take a dip in the pool, a stream, hot spring, river or even the deep-blue sea. In our little tour of swimming holes, we'll start with the inland locations first and then take you out to Costa Rica's spectacular beach destinations. Beginning in the Central Valley , if you're out travelling about visiting Braulio Carrillo National Park or Volcan Poas and you'd like to stop and cool off, the Ojo de Agua recreational facility , just 20 miles west of San Jose, has natural springs that feed into wonderfully refreshing swimming pools . There are even showers and playgrounds for the little ones, too. If you like nothing better than to jump in a cool, softly rolling river, go out to Tapanti National Park where the Rio Macho and Rio Grande de Orosi wind their way out to the Atlantic. The Charrara recreation area just north of here is set up much like Ojo de Agua, so you can choose between the recreation area's facilities or something a bit closer to nature out at Tapanti. There are more opportunities to jump in the river at Rio Corinto , near Braulio Carillo, and the Rio Puerto Viejo near the town of the same name. The former is so clear and beautiful that people even go
