SEARCHING THE WEB
All About Web Search Sites
: Learn which are the major search sites, what search engines they use and read reviews of how and how well they work. Google is one of my two favorite search sites to use if you are researching a general topic for your science course assignment on the Web. Search results are comprehensive, exhibit a remarkable degree of relevancy and can be limited to Web pages in specific languages.
All-the-Web
is the other of my two top choices of search sites to use for a comprehensive Web search of English language pages or pages in all languages. Froogle : Excellent search of Google's Webpage database for finding suppliers of commercial products (including books) and comparing current prices. Vivisimo : A great meta search site for parallel searches utilizing top notch search engines.
Ilor
: A very good and comprehensive search site with some interesting search tools.
SCIRUS
: A search site limited to scientific documents.
MegaSoccer
: The world of soccer on one site.
MSN
: Search the Web with Microsoft.

Best Meta-Search Engines
Excite (www.excite.com)
Excite.com, the portal, was bought by Infospace in late 2001. Infospace turned it into a meta-search engine picking up results from Fast, Inktomi, Ask Jeeves, About.com, Looksmart, Overture and Findwhat. In September 2002 it added Google. Webcrawler is a sister site with a better Advanced Search page and without portal paraphenalia. Ez2www (ez2www.com) WSG Pick
Dynamite new metasearcher in the portal style. Global metasearch searches 8 top engines and no PPC. Results come with a relevance score, can be translated and previewed. Results are also grouped by topic. The Advanced Search has 1000 searchable databases organized into several categories for one-shot searching. Ez2www will sometimes recommend one of these resources for a search. Fazzle.com WSG Pick
(Previously Searchonline.info) Fazzle is new to the game. It supports searches against many of the top search engines and over 120 specialty databases. Several groupings of engines are offered: Web's Best, Entire Web, Canada Web, French / Canada, others. There are also options for Health, Business, Entertainment. Results may be sorted by placement by the individual engines, title, domains, content. Search syntax includes boolean operators. Extensive customization available to subscribers. Excellent help documentation. Also has a News search engine and alerting services using news from Moreover. iBoogie (iboogie.com)
