"I don't think you can distinguish science fiction, fantasy and horror with any rigour, as the writers around the magazine Weird Tales early in the last century (Lovecraft in particular) illustrated most sharply. So I use the term 'weird fiction' for all fantastic literature - fantasy, SF, horror and all the stuff that won't fit neatly into slots. Any list of favourites is subject to regular rapid change, of course, so what's here is just a fast-frozen moment."

Links to Spiritual Fantasy and Science Fiction Sites
Web writings on Christian fantasy and science fiction and on Pagan mythology in fantasy are quite extensive; unfortunately, other subjects have been much neglected. Where, for example, are the sites devoted to speculative fiction and Eastern religions? This page takes special note of Web sites and pages about spiritual fantasy and science fiction that are likely to be overlooked. The largest collection of online writings about interfaith fantasy and science fiction, Original Literary Resources at Adherents.com , has an extensive links list, as well as links to various sites within its other pages. This page attempts not to duplicate those links except where necessary. Visitors should supplement this page by visiting Adherents.com , and should take special notice of the page devoted to Religious References in Science Fiction; this, along with the other pages at the site, contains information on speculative fiction about many faiths, including hundreds of faiths not mentioned on this page. The easiest way to locate a specific author on this page is to use your "find" button (if your browser allows this); in addition, authors' names appear in bold face. Christian fantasy authors in particular are found at a number of the sites mentioned on this page.

Subject: Science Fiction Reference Books This is a summary of the best, most current, primary SF references I am aware of to identify first editions, find reading material, find stories with favorite themes, pricing, etc.
    GENERAL REFERENCE, ENCYCLOPEDIA
THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF SCIENCE FICTION , 1993 St. Martins, 1370 pages. Hard back $75. Paperback updated 1995. $29.95. Illustrated CD ROM available from Grolier for Mac and Windoze. An indispensable reference book on science fiction that contains over 4,300 entries and 1.2 million words. For every reader who loves, uses and wishes to know more about science fiction, this is the first and most important reference you should get. Has publication dates and title changes only with no other first edition ID information. Unlike the 1979 edition, the book is not illustrated and there are no magazine checklists.
    SF FIRST EDITION IDENTIFICATION
Currey Lloyd SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY AUTHORS: A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF THEIR FIRST EDITIONS , 1979, G. K. Hall. Covers roughly 215 important authors thru December 1977, reference citations thru June 1979. Although perhaps the most important, thorough and accurate guide to identification of first editions, it if far from complete or accurate. For instance it is very easy to misidentify Heinlein's STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND by Currey's less than complete description. There are almost no cover/dust jacket prices or page counts mentioned excepting paperbacks. $75 from author at (518)873-6477

Perspectives on the Canadian Fantastic: Proceedings of the 1997 Conference on Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy. ACCSFF $15.00 Reviewed by Douglas Ivison Canadian science fiction and fantasy (or SF) has been growing rapidly over the past 20 years, producing a number of internationally known, bestselling, critically acclaimed and award-winning authors (such as William Gibson, Guy Gavriel Kay, ƒlisabeth Vonarburg, Candas Jane Dorsey, Phyllis Gotlieb, Charles de Lint, Nalo Hopkinson and Robert J. Sawyer, among others). A Canadian SF community has developed in that time, and Canadian SF has begun to receive recognition both within Canada and around the world. Academic attention to Canadian SF has been a more recent phenomenon, and is still relatively sparse, David Ketterer's Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy (1992) being the first (and so far only) comprehensive critical survey of Canadian SF. Two recent books are important (if limited) contributions to the study of Canadian SF, and will hopefully lead to increased critical attention to Canadian SF by Canadian Literature scholars.
