Homework Help Forum Homework Help Experts Romania Lindsay Perejma The country of Romania is situated in southeastern Europe. Romania borders the Black Sea and it is located between Bulgaria and the Ukraine. The capital of Romania is the city of Bucharest. The total area of Romania is 237,500 square km and it has a population of 22,463,077 from the year of 1997. Their money that they use is called Bani. We call people that live in Romania; Romanians. There are several ethnic groups that live in the country of Romania which include Hungarians, Germans, Ukrainians, Serbs, Croats, Russians, Turks and Gypsies. Most people are Romanian Orthodox but some people are Roman Catholic or Protestant. Romanians speak either Romanian, Hungarian, and/or German. The country of Romania is cold and they live through cloudy winters with snow and fog. Romanians experience frequent rain showers and thunderstorms in the summer. Romania has a variety of different terrain like the central Transylvanian Basin which is separate from the plain of Moldavia on the eat by the Carpathian Mountains which is separated from the Walachian Plain on the south by the Transylvanian Alps. Their current environmental issues consist of soil erosion and deration, water pollution, air pollution from industrial effluents and the contamination of the Danube delta wetlands. They also receive earthquakes mostly in the south and southwest and experience landslides which is caused by the climate.

Jewish Geography and Stark Sculpture
3 Dec 2001
A bit less incident to describe than in some of these. I seem to have settled in a bit. Must be time to throw some chaos into my life by travelling around a bit. I spent much of the weekend wandering town & talking politics, language, and "Jewish geography" with an Israeli guy named Jonathan, whom I mentioned before (the one who spent his teen years in Atlanta). Also, played go again on Sunday. Jonathan works in a hotel in Tel Aviv (I'm not sure in what capacity, but I suspect somewhere in the middle of the pecking order). He has a friend who has a hotel in Transylvania and he was passing through Bucharest for two weekends on his way to and from a busman's holiday working for a week in his friend's hotel. Through Jonathan I met a woman named Lorena, a successful travel agent who is certainly the most travelled Romanian I've met. About age 30, she's been all over Europe and the Eastern US and the Middle East. Very cool person, bright, witty; I'm hoping paths will cross again. One unusual aspect of this city is the public sculpture. In each city I've been to, the public sculpture sends a differnt message. London's public sculpture seems to say, "We Londoners have been here a long, long time, and many of use are very important. After all, we used to rule the world and by rights we still should." (In Paris it's the same, but somehow more artistic and less convincing.) In Vienna, there are so many portrayals of angels that an uninformed person might think the city used to be ruled by a winged aristocracy.

From Horn Book
A varied selection of photographs in black and white and color portray the past and present of the Balkan country. The text reviews Romania's history from pre-Roman times to the present, as well as the topography, economy, and contributions of Eastern and Western ethnic populations to its political development and culture. The book offers a good analysis of the complexities that lie ahead during the period of transition from Communism to democracy. Ind. Card catalog description

Previous 5 Sites Skip Previous Previous ... List Sites GEOGRAPHY Romania has high, beautiful mountains, the Carpathian Alps. Beautiful sites, charming landscapes, silent lakes and crystal like rivers make the joy af many tourists. The mountains form a circle in the middle of the country. Within the circle is a high plateau, called Transylvania. Bordering the south of Romania is the Danube River. Wallachia is found in the region between the Danube and the mountains. In the southeastern section, the Black Sea and the Danube delta are located. The eastern part of Romania, bordered by the Prut River, is called Moldavia. (The eastern part of Moldavia, west of the River Prut, was lost to the Soviet Union after World War II. It is currently called the Republic of Moldavia. Following the fall of communism, it became an independent state.) The Romanian land is rich with petroleum deposits, placing the country in second position among European nations in terms of oil resources. Additionally, the mountains carry gold. The sparkling mineral waters and the thermal spas have been used since the ruling of the Roman Empire. The hills are covered with fruit trees and vineyards. The plains support agriculture, while the mountain areas supply rich grass for cattle and sheep.

Some Data on Geography of the Tisza River Basin
Ivan Kruhlov Ivan Franko National University of Lviv Figure 1. Physical map of the Tisza Basin The map is generated with the help of ArcInfo and ArcView GIS software from free data resources available on the Internet ( http://data.geocomm.com and http://www.esri.com ). Although the declared accuracy of the data sets is of a 1:1000,000 map, it would be more realistic to assume the accuracy of a 1:2000,000 map. The layers used are: Digital elevation model 1000x1000m. Original US DMA DTED Level data with a 30-second resolution in 1x1-degree tiles were merged, projected into UTM co-ordinates, and filled to eliminate spurious sinks. Basin boundary vector layer was manually digitised using digital elevation data and hydrological network. Hydrological network vector layer was clipped out from the nation-wide data sets using the basin boundary coverage. Attribute data were supplemented with the names of the main rivers. Only principal watercourses are shown on the map Political / administrative units vector layer was clipped out of the larger data set. It has a network topology and contains data on boundary type (political/administrative), country name, province name, province area (sq. km), and province population (not reliable).

98. Bush Says Romania Will Bring Moral Clarity To NATO Alliance, November 23, 2002
For centuries, romania's geography was a source of danger. Now, you can helpour Alliance to extend a hand of cooperation across the Black Sea.
http://www.usembassy.it/file2002_11/alia/a2112203.htm
23 November 2002 Bush Says Romania Will Bring Moral Clarity to NATO Alliance, November 23, 2002 (NATO's invitation is vote of confidence, says president) President George W. Bush said that NATO's invitation for Romania to join the Alliance is recognition of the country's decision, despite many hardships, to choose the path of freedom and democracy. "Romania has made an historic journey," Bush said in remarks to citizens gathered in the Piata Revolutiei in Bucharest. "Instead of hatred, you have chosen tolerance. Instead of destructive rivalry with your neighbors, you have chosen reconciliation. Instead of state control, you have chosen free markets and rule of law. And instead of dictatorship, you have built a proud and working democracy." President Bush added, "America respects your labor, your patience, your daily determination to find a better life." Along with contributions of troops to stability in Europe and the global war on terrorism, Bush said, Romania brings a moral clarity to NATO. "You value freedom because you have lived without it," the president said. "You know the difference between good and evil because you have seen evil's face." For its part, President Bush said, NATO's pledges mean that, should any nation threaten Romania, "the United States of America and NATO will be by your side."
