About the Authors
Background
In 1998, the Digital Library Federation , the Council on Library and Information Resources , and the Research Libraries Group created an editorial board of experts to review the state of the art in digital imaging of visual resources (original photographs, prints, drawings, maps, etc.). While sources for instruction in digitizing text or text and images existed and were growing, none specifically addressed the challenges of two- and three-dimensional, as well as color-intensive, materials. These five guides are designed to serve the growing community of museums, archives, and research libraries turning to imaging as a way to provide greater access to their visual resources while simultaneously preserving the original materials. They will be updated periodically. Your

Commonly Asked Questions About Whitewater Rafting Is whitewater rafting safe?
Every adventure activity has some degree of risk, and whitewater rafting does as well. However it is actually surprisingly safe, with more than 200,000 people rafting safely each year on West Virginia's rivers. (No, they're not all there at once, so don't worry, it isn't crowded!)
Modern equipment used by outfitters has many safety features, and river guides have extensive training that includes many safety precautions. Plus, each trip begins with instruction in how to raft safely. Do I need experience?
No! Although some rivers are suitable only for experienced rafters, many sections of West Virginia's rivers are perfect for first-time rafters, including children. Most outfitters offer trips geared to varying levels of experience. Just be sure to discuss your needs with the person who takes your reservation, who will be well trained to guide you to the right option for you. Can I do it?

Collection guides (or finding aids) are detailed inventories that reveal where a collection came from, how it is arranged, and what it contains. Both the catalog records and detailed collection guides may provide links to digitized archival materials themselves.
