GENERAL REGULATIONS REPTILES AND AMPHIBIANS License Requirements Any person while in the act of taking or attempting to take reptiles and amphibians or possessing reptiles or amphibians must first possess: (A) A resident or nonresident hunting license, unless otherwise exempt, for land dwelling reptiles or amphibians, with the exception of (C) and (D) of this paragraph. (B) A resident or nonresident fishing license, unless otherwise exempt, for water dwelling reptiles or amphibians, with the exception of (C) and (D) of this paragraph. (C) A commercial turtle harvester license for legal water dwelling turtles if the taking or possession is for commercial purposes. (D) A commercial resident or nonresident minnow dealers license for legal aquatic salamanders if the taking is for commercial purposes. (E) Bullfrogs may be taken with hook and line, gig, spear, bow and arrow or other methods except firearms under the resident or nonresident fishing license. Bullfrogs may be taken with firearms under the resident or nonresident hunting license. Persons possessing a current resident or nonresident hunting license, unless otherwise exempt, may sell lawfully taken rattlesnakes only to those individuals holding a Commercial or Noncommercial Wildlife Breeders License during open season. A Commercial Wildlife Breeders License is required of all who buy and resell live rattlesnakes.

The milky liquid can cause hallucinations, which is what the addicts seek, but it is also a venom which can paralyse human hearts, cause swollen tongues, and attack human nervous systems. There have been reports that toads have been taken to drug addict hostels for the purpose of licking them. This involves frightening the toads. Bufo marinus toads also need special care, such as high humidity and warm daytime temperatures, so their lives are at risk if they are kept by people ignorant of their needs.

Herptiles are most diverse and abundant in warm regions. Therefore, you might think the state herptile movement began in the South. Try New England! Sooners The next state to adopt a reptile was North Carolina. It chose the eastern box turtle in 1979. Louisiana adopted the alligator in 1983. Few, if any, state herptiles have been adopted primarily for their beauty or practical value. The most historic North American reptiles are probably the rattlesnake and alligator. The alligator is also unusual for its commercial importance. Thirty states do not have official herptiles. But some of these states will probably take a cue from Tennessee and cave in. Perhaps a state in the South will celebrate the beginning of the next millennium by adopting something exciting, like an alligator snapping turtle. Or maybe Montana or one of the Dakotas will give the prairie rattlesnake the recognition it deserves. Washingtonians might have a tough time choosing between the tailed frog and Olympic giant salamander. And how can it be that no state has yet adopted the garter snake?
