  • Statement of Mission and Goals: My perspective is that of an academic writer. It is not my purpose to entertain the visitors at the site, although I hope that navigating through it will be pleasant enough. It is my hope that they will find serious information on a wide variety of subjects. Ideally, I would wish to make the site "complete", that is that much of the pertinent information regarding important issues be found right at the site. It is with this view in mind that the site was constructed. For most subjects that are tackled, there are (or will be) one or more texts written by the author and placed in the

Site Map Search History of Quebec Province, Canada as of January 2, 2000 T he province of Quebec occupies mainly the two slopes of the basin formed by the St. Lawrence River whose course runs chiefly between the Laurential and Alleghany ranges. Its boundaries are: to the north, the district of Ungava; to the northeast, Labrador; to the east, The Gulf of St. Lawrence; to the southeast, Brunswick and the States of Maine and New Hampshire; to the south, the States of Vermont and New York; and the counties of Glengarry and Prescottt in Ontario; to the west, the province of Ontario. Q uebec’s area measures 354,873 square miles; about equal to that of the United Kingdom, France, Belgium and Holland together. The word Quebec comes from the Indian word meaning “narrows”, the term the Algonquins used to describe the area around what is now Quebec City. No country in the world of the same extent possess so many and so abundant waterways, chief of which are the St. Lawrence, discharging the Great Lakes and navigable to its very source and its principle tributaries: the Ottawa, the St. Maurice and the Saguenay, each which surpasses in navigability the largest rivers of Europe. Here landed the discoverers of the country and the founders of the nation.

This is a first attempt to chronical the history of Fireball sailing on Lake St. Louis. The golden age of dinghy sailing on Lake Saint Louis of which Fireballs were a key element . Claude Hoskins became the honourary class comodore and donated his property to help promote sailing. Beacosnfield Yacht Club (BYC) was born and became the hotbed of Fireball activity. It was not unusual to see 60 plus boats at important regattas. We now see in the main lounge at BYC a framed photo showing the start of the 1971 North American championships . Will try to post this on the site later.

Montreal Quebec Temple Media Kit Previous Next Montreal, Quebec History Early Church converts in Quebec in the 1830s eventually emigrated to the United States to be with the main body of Church members, at first in Ohio or Missouri, and later in Nauvoo, Illinois. After the 1840s, little Church activity took place in Quebec until the next century. In 1918 missionaries from the Eastern States Mission were sent to Montreal. In 1919 the Canadian Mission was established. Elders Guy V. Cutler and Marvin Beckstrom were assigned to commence missionary work in Montreal in October of 1919. A congregation developed in Montreal in the 1920s, with James McCance serving as its president. For many years, Montreal had the only congregation of the Church in Quebec. In 1942 a church building on St. Joseph Boulevard was purchased from a Protestant congregation. The building was renovated and used by several of the Church's congregations until it was destroyed in a fire in 1979. By the 1960s membership had risen sufficiently to form several congregations. A French-speaking congregation was established in Montreal in 1961, and some of the missionaries in the city began teaching the gospel in French. In 1969 a congregation was also established in Quebec City.
