In the past, in documents and on maps, Mistissini was referred to as Mistassini or Baie du Poste by non-natives. However, the Crees have always named this community Mistissini and today Mistissini is the official name of the community. However, the Lake is still named Mistassini Lake because no official name change has been made yet. Also, one should know that there is a non-native community in the Lac-St-Jean region that is named Mistassini.

Introduction to Satellite Data Products via the World Wide Web –
Studying the Impacts of the July 2002 Fires in Western Quebec
This laboratory will introduce the student to information products developed from satellite sensors that are easily accessible via the internet. To introduce the student to different products, we will examine a series of fires that occurred in early July in Western Quebec that produced a smoke plume that was transported to the eastern United States and resulted in episodes of air pollution (increased haze and smog) in this region. Figure 1 presents an image collected by the MODIS satellite of this event. This image contains the locations of the fires themselves (in red) and the large smoke plume that it generated. How much area burned during these fires? Prepare a table that lists the area burned on each day between July 3 and July 15 for Quebec. There is much information on fire activity that is published by forest fire management agencies in both the U.S. and Canada. The National Interagency Coordination Center (NICC), which is part of the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) maintains a website that contains the summary fire reports from the U.S. and Canada. Welcome!!!
The Social Studies Program at Bishop Whelan High School in Lachine, Quebec focuses on various aspects of critical research, reading and writing skills. We also attempt to integrate technology, co-operative learning, and presentation of projects and materials to foster a "community of students" working together to enhance their learning environment. Each Social Studies class is in the process of developing an On-Line Project that will allow students to build for the future, and give parents an opportunity to view their children's progress. The purpose of our various projects is to allow students to use the internet to develop their projects as Subject Experts . These projects are intended to allow students to learn important research and computer skills they will require in our "technological society". The projects link students within our school, and eventually with schools around the province, country and world.
