Breheimen vc New National Park established The Norwegian Government decided, by a resolution of May 3, 2002 to establish the Dovrefjell - Sunndalsfjella National Park. The Norwegian Government decided, by a resolution of May 3, 2002 to extend the Dovrefjell National Park. Consequently, the boundaries of the park were extended both northwards and westwards, including territories in three counties: Møre og Romsdal, Sør-Trøndelag, and Oppland. The name of the park is now Dovrefjell – Sunndalsfjella National Park. The government’s resolution also includes the establishment of seven new landscape protected areas, and two new biotope protected areas, adjacent to the national park. An extension of the Nature Reserve of Fokstumyra is also included. Totally, these areas add up to 4367 km2, which is the largest continuous protected area in Norway.
