In the spring of 1999 a small part of the collected information was put on the internet. Immediately I was contacted by American descendants of former residents of Texel. Hundreds of people left the island between 1850 and 1920 and emigrated to the United States, Australia and South Africa. Some families lived for ages in Texel, before they made this big decision. Others were "strangers", who came around 1840 to the new polder Eierland in Texel. Their roots were often situated in the area of Goeree, an island in the province of Zuid-Holland. In many cases I was able to provide the grandchildren and greatgrandchildren of these emigrants with information about their ancestors. A lot of work, but it was a rewarding job, because they were able to tell me interesting stories about the lifes of the first and second generation of immigrants in the United States. You will find here information about emigrants from different sources, arranged by surname. If you have any queries, please contact me. In return I should like to hear some of the family history. Not only the dates, but also the preserved stories.
