State Agencies Much legislation effecting commercial fishing (i.e. specific catch limits, docking) happens at the state level. Also, other local information is more likely to be found in state documents, such as local research, tides information, etc. This page presents links to some of the information provided by each state along the East coast
Maine
Maine Department of Marine Resources
A surprisingly rich and fresh-looking site, Maine's Department of Marine Resources site makes a large amount of information available directly from the home page. From a well-organized and clearly labeled navigation bar, the user can readily find information on commercial fisheries, laws and regulations, species information, and new additions to the site. Two webcams add a touch of fun, and images of Maine fish culture add flavor. Other important features are prominently displayed, such as a search function, contact information, local weather, tidal information, and sun rise/set tables. Maine Atlantic Salmon Commission
Arising out of a need to restore the rapidly diminishing population of Atlantic Salmon, the Maine Atlantic Salmon Commission provides an arsenal of information via its web site on the endangered fish. With a narrower focus than other web sites, this site combines, in one place, reports, regulations, news items, accounts of restoration efforts, and helpful graphics and photographs. The only drawback of the site is the expectations it leaves the user: if only there were comarable sites on other endangered Atlantic Fish!
