Connecticut:
Connecticut's State Board of Education adopted a state policy on School, Family, Community Partnerships on August 7, 1997 based on the National PTA's National Standards for Parent/Family Involvement Programs. Connecticut's General Assembly passed a law in 1997 (Public Act 97-290) which was intended to foster meaningful partnerships among schools, families, and communities to enhance student learning. It stated that ALL local and regional boards of education were required to develop, adopt, and implement written policies and procedures to encourage parent-teacher communication by September 1, 1998. The Connecticut Department of Education along with community partners including the Connecticut PTA, put together a packet to help local boards of ed comply with the law. The packet contained a sample policy, the six standards in detail, an overview of the law, and procedures and agreements that had been developed in school districts around the country, as models for communities to use. This policy and law impact 1,068 public schools including 645 elementary, 163 junior HS/middle schools, 163 high schools, and 17 vocational/technical schools, serving 545,619 public school students.

Bureaus Contacts Fast Facts ... NDOW HOME About Us Commission Board Members Wildlife Commission Meeting Info Wildlife Commission Committees In Nevada, wildlife resources belong to the public. If you have an opinion about how Nevada's wildlife resources are managed, consider voicing it at a County Advisory Board or Wildlife Commission meeting. Public input is critical to the workings of the 17 county advisory boards. Their job is to gather information and opinions from area sportsmen, then advise the Wildlife Commission about how to manage wildlife and recommend seasons and limits for their counties. These recommendations are carefully considered by NDOW biologists and the Wildlife Commission.
Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners
The 9-member, governor-appointed Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners is responsible for establishing broad policy, setting annual and permanent regulations, reviewing budgets, and receiving input on wildlife and boating matters from entities such as the 17 county advisory boards to manage wildlife.

Sandy Miller What is NIC? The Nevada Institute for Children (NIC) is a not-for-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to advancing children's issues in Nevada. NIC has an Oversight Board and receives its direction from Michelle Chino Ph. D. NIC started in May 1998 based on the vision of First Lady Sandy Miller. She wanted an organization that could bring credible research to address the problems that confront Nevada's children. But she didn't want to stop there. She wanted to transform that research into meaningful legislation that would make a real difference in the lives of our children. Located on the University of Nevada Las Vegas campus, NIC has become a statewide organization that represents the statewide interests of Nevada's children. It conducts research using the best and brightest minds in our state, then proposes policies based on that research to advance children's causes. Once it completes its research, NIC uses two Community Policy Boardsone for southern Nevada, one for northern and rural Nevadato ensure its recommendations are practical and not merely academic.

Academic Affairs - Reports Review of Alternative State-level
Higher Education Governance Structures Executive Summary Foreword
In July 2001 and again in September 2001, the Board met with an Association of Governing Boards’ facilitator, Dr. Terrence MacTaggart, to discuss Board functioning and its strategic planning agenda for the coming year. One of the consistent themes of these discussions centered around balancing continuity in the governance arrangements for public higher education that Oregon has evolved over many decades, with the appropriate decentralization of responsibility to universities that enables adaptation to a dynamic future. It should be noted that these general concerns have been seriously deliberated by the Board’s committees in recent years and a number of changes, both incremental and substantial, have been made. Dr. MacTaggart suggested that it would be useful for the Board to review alternative system models to establish a common framework from which discussion might proceed. To that end, in the report that follows, staff has synthesized existing literature on the rich variety of American public higher education governance structures, including newer models (i.e., the public corporation), and described other recent developments. Although it is a truism, it must be said that while familiar patterns of governance repeat themselves across the 50 states, each state’s history, culture, and politics have imprinted a highly individualized design on the governance models that have evolved.
