CLIO provides information for accessing U.S. archived Federal Records. The Guide to Federal Records in the National Archives of the United States (NARA) details the organizational scheme of the documents, their locations, and access procedures. The Introduction to the online gopher listing for this site explains how documents are organized, and reading it is strongly recommended prior to spending time and resources searching the Indexes. NARA records are organized by the originating agency and further arranged based upon the agency's filing system. Try different search terms to find information. For instance, the general term "Indian claims" brought up documents in six different record groups; variations on this search term could bring up records in additional record groups. The following are examples of record groups:

Here is a fully illustrated guide to wilderness living and survival. It is an excellent introduction to the study of Native American crafts and outdoor skills. This book not only describes the skills Native Americans have cultivated over hundreds of years, but explains in step-by-step detail-through over two hundred illustrations by the author himself-how to create all kinds of Native American handiwork.
Begin with the process of tanning leather to create authentic Native American clothing-from elaborate war bonnets to several varieties of moccasins. Complement authentic Native American wardrobes with handcrafted pouches, scabbards, and cases. For the ambitious enthusiast of Native American skills, there are concise, easy-to-follow instructions for building saddles, travoises, and canoes.
Discover the basics of the Native American "kitchen," including utensils and cookery, as well as the many foods common to the Native American diet. Chapters on games and musical instruments showcase a side of Native American domestic life rarely seen before, and a section on jewelry making will give you a head start on creating your own elaborate geometric beadwork designs.

Faithful to the journey: Native American storyteller Ray Buckley
By Rebecca Bowman Woods To Ray Buckley, telling stories is both a gift, and a responsibility not to be taken lightly. Buckley, who is of both Native American and Scottish descent, delivered the sermon during Saturday evening's worship service. Artfully weaving together traditional Native American and personal stories of redemption and spirituality, he delivered a powerful message about the common journey we share. He began with a childhood story of his father, who gave him a deerskin bag to wear around his neck, and a small stone to keep in the bag. The stone had two symbols on it, each representing the story of Tatonka, the Bull Buffalo. His father would tell the story and have him repeat it, night after night. When Buckley had mastered it, his father would begin again with another stone, and another story. Buckley would wear his bag of stones wherever he went, and the other children often asked about them. One night, his father spread out a blanket, and told him to empty his stones onto it. "This is the sum total of all you know," his father told him. "It's a lot, isn't it?" young Ray asked his father. "Yes, it's a lot," he replied.

June 17, 2002 Panel urges support of Native-American Ministries by Evan Silverstein The recommendations came in response to a referral from the 212th General Assembly (2000), which in turn was based on the recommendations of a task force appointed to study Native-American Ministries. Among the recommendations approved by the committee:
    • Encouraging every presbytery and synod that includes Native-American congregations to evaluate the potential for revitalizing and expanding Native-American ministry in consultation with such congregations and communities, the Nativ-American Consulting Committee and appropriate GA entities.
This includes examining the leadership and financial needs of governing bodies in achieving the goals and objectives set out by PC(USA) policies applicable to Native-American ministry.
    • Instruct the General Assembly Council (GAC), in partnership with presbyteries and synods, to make available adequate funding for a churchwide consultation on Native- American Ministries no later than 2004. Review and evaluate church policy on Native-American ministries and developments in such ministries and foster better dialogue between Native-American Presbyterians and middle governing bodies, with a report to go to the 217th General Assembly in 2005.
