Safari . The word simply means "travel" in Swahili, but for many, it alludes to wonders first envisioned in childhood: sweeping savannas, big snarling cats, thundering herds of elephant and wildebeest. Like its meaning, the word roams the imagination, becoming other words and places, like serengeti, sahara , or Kilimanjaro . Safari crosses the landscape of the mind, until it finally merges with the name of the great continent itself, Africa. Geographia invites our readers to explore all the traditional African safari destinations, but the game parks and wildlife reserves are only the beginning of the adventure. The second largest continent on Earth, Africa contains more countries than any other. With a history of human habitation that begins with the oldest known ancestors of man, the continent's cultural wealth easily matches its natural attractions. Empires rose and fell in Africa thousands of years before the European powers began their protracted exploitation of the continent, and much pre-colonial culture remains intact.

It has mountains and plains, forests and rivers, remote wildlife lodges and an exceptional array of mammals and birds, many of which are rarely found elsewhere. Of course Malawi’s most visual asset is its vast and beautiful lake, home to some spectacular freshwater fish. It has great tracts of white sandy beaches and remote islands which are a match for the best in the Indian Ocean. There are some superb resorts here offering scuba-diving, golf courses, windsurfing and sailing which when combined with perhaps horse-riding on the Nyika Plateau or a safari in Liwonde National Park or perhaps Zambia’s Luangwa Valley close by, make an unbeatable holiday. click here to download full colour Malawi PDF - 160K Top Ethiopia is a land of contrasts - the people are of many races, they have various religious beliefs and they all seem to speak different languages. Not only does the country have a fascinating history with churches, monasteries and castles to visit, but it is also able to offer magnificent mountain scenery and outstanding wildlife, with more than 800 bird species and 80 species of mammal at the last count. Our 15-day itinerary below takes you to some of these wonderful destinations within Ethiopia, though should you prefer a shorter or longer trip, or wish to visit different areas, do please ask for our help. We would be only to happy to tailor a programme for you.

The Media Institute of Southern Africa has expressed concern over Government's decision to launch the process of licensing a second cellular phone operator before the reform of the country's communications sector has been debated in Parliament. Misa issued a statement after the Namibian Communications Commission (NCC) announced the appointment of German consultancy firm DETECON International to oversee the bidding for a second cellular phone license. "As it is, Misa takes issue with many aspects of the draft Communications Bill, which we believe falls short of international standards - notably the SADC Protocol on Information, Culture and Sport adopted by Namibia's National Assembly earlier in the year - governing broadcasting and the regulation of communications in general," Misa said.
