Transforming Libraries for 2000 and Beyond: the LSU Model
The LSU Libraries faced severe funding challenges in the early nineties. Through a strategy of network development, serials redesign, grants, reorganization, legislative support, and teamwork, the Libraries met its challenges. The LSU Libraries successfully transcended that decade and moved into 2000 and beyond with a model that has improved library services and supported libraries statewide. This document highlights the activities and outcomes that brought the model to fruition.

Building Community

Several years ago, feisty principal Steve Scroggs was putting his passion on the line in rural Kinston, North Carolina. Now he’s got a dream school in wealthy Chapel Hill. His challenge: to prove that caring about kids, letting teachers share leadership, and viewing education as a lifelong journey can also work in this “Cadillac” of a school. October 25, 2002 'America's 100 Best College Buys' includes Lyon in 2002-03 edition For the seventh year in a row, Lyon College is included among “America’s 100 Best College Buys.” Lyon is one of six Arkansas colleges and universities included in the 2002-2003 edition of the annual report, which lists schools that offer high quality education at an affordable price. “Lyon College is pleased to have again earned this national recognition for quality and value,” Dr. Walter B. Roettger, president of Lyon, said. “It is testimony to the talent and dedication of our faculty and staff, the preparation and motivation of our students, the vision of our trustees and friends, and the support of the community and region.” Also on the list are Harding University, Hendrix College, John Brown University, Ouachita Baptist University and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Last spring, the company conducted its 12th Annual National College Survey. The survey form was submitted to directors of admissions of 1,485 accredited four-year, residential U.S. colleges and universities. Survey results showed the high school grade point average for entering class freshmen in fall 2001 was 3.21 and the average ACT score was 23. The average GPA for Lyon freshmen was 3.56 and average ACT score was 25.
