In the Best of New Mexico issue of the Crosswinds Weekly , the Penfield Gallery of Indian Arts was named one of the Best Reasons for Locals to Spend Time in Old Town , especially for the huge fetish collection. The Penfield Gallery has hundreds of Zuni fetishes carved by the best artists from Zuni Pueblo available in their Albuquerque store. A considerable number of these can be seen on this website, having the most extensive selection of Zuni fetishes available on the Internet. The gallery carries pottery made by the artists of the New Mexico Pueblos, as well as those of Hopi and the Navajo Nation. There is a large collection of miniature pottery, especially from Acoma and Santa Clara, as well as the more traditional forms. The Navajo rugs carried by the gallery are all hand-woven, many of hand-spun wool, and come mainly from the western part of the Navajo Nation. A specialty is sandpainting rugs from the Shiprock area. Navajo sandpaintings are also found here, with large and highly detailed sandpaintings being available. A large selection of Pueblo storytellers is carried, including pottery masks. Navajo folk art, including the work of Delbert Buck and Johnson Antonio, Zuni beaded figures, and the New Mexico cedar santos of Ricardo Salazar may also be found here. Most recently we have added the gourd art of two non-Native artists, Robert Rivera and Tony McGregor.

Sherman Alexie will perform at Salt Lake City's Kingsbury Hall on Thursday. BY BRANDON GRIGGS
THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE

Poet. Author. Filmmaker. Producer. Stand-up comedian. Outspoken American Indian icon.
Is there anything Sherman Alexie can't do?
At 35, Alexie is probably the most famous of the emerging group of American Indian writers whose work challenges stereotypes of Indians as noble shamans or downtrodden drunks. He's the creative mind behind the indie hit film "Smoke Signals," which won two awards at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival, and "The Business of Fancydancing," which debuted at Sundance this January.
And, he has a growing rep as a provocative live performer who challenges audiences' perceptions as he makes them laugh.
"He's absolutely a force of nature," says Michelle Satter, director of the Sundance Institute's feature film program, which helped develop "Smoke Signals" on its way to the screen. "His work is comic, profane, poetic. He has one of the unique voices in contemporary literature and now filmmaking. He's also an incredible performer. He's fearless."
Alexie brings his freewheeling live act to Salt Lake City's Kingsbury Hall on Thursday. Audience members can expect a mix of jokes, rants, poetry and storytelling.

Welcome to LEGACY-INDIA. India is a vast treasure-house of ancient endeavours - in art and sculpture, and in science and learning. It's history is dotted with fascinating polemics on science and logic, on reason and speculation. Love of nature is combined with a love for the abstract. And this is perhaps what gives the Indian historical legacy it's enduring charm. While some of this heritage is well documented and commonly known, much of it still needs to be unveiled. This compilation is yet another small glimpse of India's forgotten past. It is an exposition of a heritage that may be less known, but nevertheless compelling and attractive for any lover of Indian art and architecture. About this site Best Viewing Ahmedabad can be a fascinating city for architects and art historians. Its tantalizing mosques, elaborately carved vavs (step-wells) and havelis (mansions), its rich museums and its elegant modern buildings make it one of India's more interesting cities to visit. In the warm light of it's mild winters, its monuments stand out as bold edifices with exuberant ornamentation and strong local character. Located on the banks of the Ganga, the hilltop fort of

Pearsall and how he came to collect over 3,000 objects of American Indian art. Saturday, March 22, 1 p.m. Museums and the Native Voice Dr. Gerald McMaster, from the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, explores the idea of "Native voice" vs. the authoritative voice of museums. Saturday, March 22, 2 p.m. The Florida Museum of Natural History will display selections from an important 19th and early 20th century American Indian art collection beginning March 22, 2003 during The Pearsall Collection of American Indian Art: 40th Anniversary Selections Many selections from this little known collection will be on exhibit for the public for the first time in 40 years to honor the collector, Leigh Morgan Pearsall, as well as the University of Florida's acquisition of the collection in 1963. Pearsall, who retired to Melrose, Fla., in the 1950's, spent his life collecting art from nearly every Native American cultural group in North America. He also bought other entire collections, leading him to become the owner of one of the largest private American Indian art collections in the nation during the early 1900's.
