    Introduction
A friend of mine was planning to make his first website, and he asked me to suggest a good book to read to find out what he should know.
I realized I didn't know of one, so I decided to write my own guide.
This is not intended to tell ALL the things that can be done in HTML. It's merely the things I think are necessary for a basic understanding of HTML design. With the information on these pages you should be able to make your first website, even if you've never done anything like it before.
I am assuming you have a reasonable familiarity with computers, and a basic understanding of what the internet is, and what a website is. There's an explanation of these things on my very basic information page.
If you are a complete HTML beginner you should start from the top and work your way down. If you are just looking for hints on a certain function, welcome. Help yourself to whatever information you find helpful.
If you find this useful, please tell your friends, and bookmark it so you will be able to come back next time you need help.

    Getting started
Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) is a text based languages that formats pages for viewing in a 'Browser'. You can compose an HTML document using any simple text editor like 'Notepad' or 'Wordpad' providing the document is saved with an .html or .htm file extension.
HTML code consists of a series of instructions placed inside special brackets to make what are called HTML 'Tags' These are placed either side of the text or object you wish to place in your document.
The layout of the document is split into two distinct parts:
content, title, author, keywords, styles and, in modern pages, Javascript functions.
text and images, (Notice American spellings for 'color' and later on 'center'. These must be adhered to.)

Other tags placed within the BODY tags determine how things appear on the web page. The main ones are listed here:
    • for BOLD text.
    • for ITALIC text.
    • for UNDERLINED text.
    • (H1-largest, H6-smallest)

Other common tags used within the BODY of the document are:
    • (small Java Functions)
    • (carriage return)

A complete list of all the tags and their functions can be found on the HTML Reference Page

    Beginner's Guide to HTML
So, you probably stumbled apon this in search of information. And, powerful information it is indeed. The power to create web pages is one that is embraced. The web is probably the biggest tool to retrieve information in the world. This being said, I should tell you something very important, it is probably the easiest thing you will have done since the first grade. Sure, we like to make it seem hard to the poeple we build them for, but, how do you expect us to live. Of course, there is a lot more to web pages than HTML, but this is the primary information you will need to know to get started. By reading this, you will be starting down a long road, but a fun one. Prepare yourself for the power in front of you. We will start by finding out what HTML is. Then, we will begin experimenting with some of it's features. Pull up a chair and grab something to drink. I hope this is a little easier to read than the guide I found to learn HTML. 1. What is HTML? And, what is a web page?

Beginner FAQ: The Nitrogen Cycle, and ``New Tank Syndrome''
    What Is the Nitrogen Cycle?
Like all living creatures, fish give off waste products (pee and poo). These nitrogenous waste products break down into ammonia (NH ), which is highly toxic to most fishes. In nature, the volume of water per fish is extremely high, and waste products become diluted to low concentrations. In aquariums, however, it can take as little as a few hours for ammonia concentrations to reach toxic levels. How much ammonia is too much? The quick answer is: if a test kit is able to measure it, you've got too much (i.e., it's in a high enough concentrations to stress fish). Consider emergency action (water changes and zeolite clay) to reduce the danger. (A more detailed discussion of ammonia toxicity can be found later in this section.) In aquaria-speak, the ``nitrogen cycle'' (more precisely, the nitrification cycle) is the biological process that converts ammonia into other, relatively harmless nitrogen compounds. Fortunately, several species of bacteria do this conversion for us. Some species convert ammonia (NH The desired species of nitrifying bacteria are present everywhere (e.g., in the air). Therefore, once you have an ammonia source in your tank, it's only a matter of time before the desired bacteria establish a colony in your filter bed. The most common way to do this is to place one or two (emphasis on

The simple truth is that saltwater fish and invertebrates are not necessarily more difficult to keep, they just have different requirements than freshwater fish and are a bit less forgiving when it comes to mistakes. What is Amateur Radio?
Amateur radio is a community of people that use radio transmitters and receivers to communicate with other Amateur radio operators. The things that amateur radio operators do with their radios are diverse as the people themselves. Amateur radio operators are often called ham radio operators or simply "hams." (The origin of this nickname is for all practical purposes lost. Although some people still speculate about, few agree and even few care. Amateur radio operators proudly call themselves hams and nobody knows why.) There are about 600 thousand hams in the United States and about 5 thousand hams in the Finger Lakes region. Ham radio operators are licensed by the United States Government and enjoy a far more priviledges of radio operation than "CB" radio operators do. With these priviledges come responisbilities and rules for the operation of an amateur radio station. Specifically, there are a few things that hams are not allowed to do: 1) Hams are not allowed to do anything with their radios that makes them money in way. Bummer. Ham radio is a hobby, but that doesn't mean it's completely frivoulous. (Read on!)
