Plan your arrival for July 5, 2003
Plan your departure for the afternoon of July 13, 2003
Join archaeologist Dr. Jim Keyser and French archaeologists for an in-depth exploration of the ancient paintings found in the caves of the Ariège region and the Lot and Dordogne river valleys. Niaux, La Vache, Lascaux II, Pech Merle, Cougnac, Combarelles, Font de Gaume, Bernifal, Cap Blanc, and Rouffignac are on the menu and will provide you with an intimate look at the art of our Paleolithic ancestors. A hands-on demonstration of how the art was made, and lectures to set the art into context, round out your experience. July 6, 2003 (Sun)
    Overnight in Montignac
Depart Toulouse for the start of your cave art adventure. Travel north, past Cahors to the Lot valley. After a picnic lunch, visit the cave of Pech Merle, perhaps the most beautiful cave you will visit on this trip. French archaeologist Valerie Feruglio joins us for a trip through Pech Merle. In addition to beautiful limestone formations the cave boasts walls and ceilings graced by paintings and carvings of beauty equal to any of those you will see on the trip. You’ll even see a 15,000 year old footprint on Pech Merle’s floor. In late afternoon, arrive at your hotel in the Dordogne region where you’ll spend five nights. Those caves are incredible...but your careful attention to individual needs, desires (and peculiarities) made the trip superlative. I speak from experience since I went on an earlier tour [with a different company]. I had a great time then but I had a 10 times better time with Walking Softly.
