After that project, Ron found that the skills that he had focused on were in demand by the industry. He had several offers to choose from, including Disney Animated Features . He turned down the chance to work with the company that created Dinosaur and Roger Rabbit in favor of fulfilling a dream. He went to work for San Francisco’s , the George Lucas company that has created special effects for eight of the top 15 box office hits of all time (winning 14 Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects), including Star Wars “I worked on The Mummy Returns and am presently on Star Wars: Episode II ,” says Ron. “I’m a Creature Wrangler - that includes skinning/ enveloping creatures, corrective shape modeling, clothing and hair and flesh simulations and script programming.” The traditional animation portion of his VFS training is something that he feels strongly about. “It was incredibly valuable,” says Ron. “It showed that CG animation didn't exist in a vacuum but builds upon the hard-won skills of the pioneers of animation.” He also emphasizes the importance of planning. “One of the strengths of the program was the emphasis placed on planning in CG. The grads I've come across from some other schools rarely see the value in it and so don’t work as efficiently as they could.”
