8. What Is Electrical Engineering?
What is an electrical engineer? An electrical engineer is someone who
http://ece.uwaterloo.ca/www_info/whatis_ee.html
What is an Electrical Engineer?
An Electrical Engineer is someone who
  • designs and implements a fibre-optic transmission module for a high-speed telephone network; develops and programs a computer control system for an automated production line; plans and supervises the electrical distribution network between a remote electrical generating station and the end-users separated by hundreds of kilometres.
These are a small sample of what electrical engineering has to offer. Electrical Engineering began over 100 years ago and has been expanding into new fields ever since. Electrical Engineering can be classified into two broad areas:
  • Energy - the transfer of energy from one point to another. This could be over large distances from a hydro-power dam to a power user, or it could be from a central transformer to a manufacturing plant. Information - the transfer of information from one point to another. Both the message sent and the devices used to transfer the information are part of this field. The information could be sound, data or images. This transfer of information could take place in satellites, televisions, computer systems, telephone networks, portable radios or sound systems. In the past few decades there has been significant growth in this area of electrical engineering.
  • The above two fields within electrical engineering allow for a broad range of career choices and specialization. At Waterloo, you will have the opportunity to explore your options academically and through the co-op workterms. Upon graduation, you'll choose your own career path based on academic and work experience.

    12. Welcome To Engineering Online
lives, it's hard to separate what an electrical engineer needs to know and what a Computer Engineer needs to know.
    http://www.discoverengineering.org/eweek/Engineers/electrical_engineering.htm
    About Electrical and Computer Engineering
    What is Electrical Engineering?

Simply put, electrical engineering is the application of the laws of physics governing electricity, magnestism, and light to develop products and services for the benefit of humankind. Okay, so what is Computer Engineering?
Computer Engineering is the design, construction, implementation, and maintenance of computers and computer controlled equipment for the benefit of humankind.
Most universities offer Computer Engineering as either a degree program of its own or as a sub-discipline of Electrical Engineering. With the widespread use and intergration of computers into our everyday lives, it's hard to separate what an Electrical Engineer needs to know and what a Computer Engineer needs to know. Because of this, several universities offer a dual degree in both Electrical and Computer Engineering.
The ESCAPE center at Purdue University has a wealth of information on Electrical Engineering.
