HAWAIIAN AND POLYNESIAN DANCE
T.C. Campbell Breakthrough Intl. Course Exam Number 20 Dance of Manahaim Study Course Hula dance falls into two basic catagories. What are these two variations in this dance? Originally, there was the understanding that hula came to the Hawaiian people through a woman dance instructor from which of the Hawaiian islands? The dance instructor as the story goes, taught the dances to her sister. When she taught her sister, she gave her three names under which she could teach, and one of these was Laka. With the passing of time, the name of Laka came to be deified, though it was not originally associated with a deity. Among contemporary hula dancers, there has been the revival of the worship of a Laka as what? The ipu is the primary instrument associated with hula. What is this instrument? Dancers also use ili ili, in the dance. What are these? How are they used? Another musical instrument is the uli uli. What is this Traditionally grass skirts were not worn in hula. What was the traditional costume worn? What type of dance is hula How did the meles or hula chants come about?

This site is all that's left of my Hawaiian Dance Club because the Hawaiian 'authoritahs' caught on to my little swingin' operation and shut me down. Yes, we had some good times in this place, in bed and out, but sad or happy, it has to end. Now all that is left are the many names and friends of the creators, so please mourn with us, and share in our happy memories here at The Swingin' Hawaiian Dance Club called Josh's... - j0$H cl@rke (keep the faith, brothas)
Message from us all - Thanks for visiting this site and be sure to keep skateboarding, jamming on your guitar, and above all, "Remember the Swingin' Hawaiian Dance Club you use to hang out at and all the people there" (sounds like Cheers, sorta, doesn't it?)

CONCERT
... INFORMANCE We are a traditional halau. Our roots are embedded in the ceremonies of the 'uniki , a hula graduation and rite of passage where knowledge is passed by the teacher to the students, and titles are earned by the students when a certain level is attained. The dance style of the halau is called "hula ku`i" , a term associated with the dance style of the late Hula Master Maiki Aiu Lake. Known as the "Martha Graham" of hula and the "Mother of the Hawaiian Renaissance," Mrs. Lake's styling reflects the gentle mannerisms and courtly dances of the Hawaiian Monarchy during the late 1800's. Artistic Director, Kumu Hula:
Michael Pili Pang studied dance under Hula Master Maiki Aiu Lake and Mae Kamamalu Klein, also a protege of Ma`iki Aiu Lake. His knowledge as a chanter comes from Master Chanter Pualani Kanakaole Kanahele. Together, Kanahele and Pang were the first to receive a Master/Apprentice grant to study chanting through the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, Folk Arts Program. Mr. Pang's training makes him a resource for emerging hula instructors and choreographers today. Halau Hula Ka No`eau is dedicated to educating and promoting Hawaiian dance by supporting and maintaining high quality traditional hula performances. The goals of this company are to strengthen hula and increase it's audience; to present hula that is artistically and culturally correct;
