There are lots of holidays, and lots of traditions that we develop with our families. But none, I think, so important as the Christmas holidays. Our Christmas memories are surely some of the strongest and most special memories we have. I remember Mom and the other women in the family, in the kitchen, preparing the traditional turkey and all the requisite accompaniments. And of course Dad carving the turkey. I remember the Christmas crackers and the silly hats that came out of them that we would then wear through dinner. (Yes we did this last year at my brother Bob's house too! His wife Norma made the crackers, and the silly hats that we wore through dinner.) As our families grow and change, we add new traditions to our old favorites, to create our own unique experience.

*Merry Christmas!*
Christmas has always been a treasured time of year. Writers such as Charles Dickens and Laura Engels Wilder remind us how it was celebrated in our simpler past. Although we now live in an information age, we can still harken back to that time with wonderful meats with gravy, suculent vegetables, filling potatoes and rich desserts. The kids eagerly await the presents on Christmas morning, but it is the adults who look forward to the true gift of the season, Christmas Dinner. When you explore this Christmas site you will find: Elegant Dinner Menus with recipes to make your Christmas bright. A Down-Home Menu for those less fond of cooking and more fond of meat and potatoes. Christmas Cookies are fun when kids are included in baking...and eating. Christmas Candy is a must for guests and just to have as a light between meal snack. Desserts top off a meal. Your choice here is often crucial, but always delicious. Christmas Drinks such as Eggnog and Wassail must not be forgotten. Such spirits add zest to a winter's eve. Christmas

Cooking for the Holiday Season
Dec 10 '02
Author's Product Rating
Pros
Elegant, delicious recipes; beautiful photos
Cons
None that I've found! The Bottom Line A wonderful choice of cookbook for any feast-worthy occasion. Full Review My husband and I aren't particularly into celebrating holidays. We do, however, love an excuse to cook wonderful food and spend time with family and friends. Because of this we have a good handful of holiday cookbooks, including Bon Appetit's The Christmas Season. This is a gorgeous book with glossy pages and tons of color photographs. It includes menus and recipes for parties and dinners, most of which are quite elegant. We love to pick and choose recipes to add to our own menus, and these recipes have, so far, universally impressed us! The Parties Party sections include a holiday tea party, a Christmas cocktail party, a Yuletide dessert party, a tree-trimming buffet, a family Christmas Eve dinner and an elegant Christmas Eve dinner, a Christmas breakfast, and several New Year's Eve and Day events (dinner, brunch, and an open house).
