N.B. : This is not a comprehensive work. In fact, it's not even close. Most of the statements here are true, but with varying degrees of significance. This guide is meant to give a brief overview of the major players in British literature. If you already know a lot about British literature, well, you probably won't learn much here, but hopefully you'll be amused. Try opening 2 browser windows for these documents (one for the body - one for the footnotes) it should make reading these much easier. The focus here is on the memorable and the unusual rather than the important or useful. (In other words, don't come here to study for that big English exam.) = Poet

Professor Timothy David Noakes, MB ChB, MD, FACSM Tim Noakes, author of Oxford's internationally acclaimed Lore of Running , now in its fourth edition, needs little introduction as the runner's guru. As the Discovery Health Professor of Exercise and Sports Science at the University of Cape Town he has established an international reputation as an outstanding scientist, researcher and teacher, and he is a gifted and successful author. His sporting career began when, as a student at the University of Cape Town, he rowed for the South African Universities team, and was awarded full blue colours. He began long-distance running in the 1970s and has run more than 70 marathons and ultra-marathons, including seven Comrades and 15 Two Oceans runs. He has also ridden the 104 km Argus Cycle Tour eight times. While his main professional and academic role is that of Professor of Exercise and Sports Science at UCT, he is also the Director of the Medical Research Council/UCT Research Unit for Exercise Science and Sport Medicine, and, with Morné du Plessis, founded the Sports Science Institute of South Africa in Newlands. He is on the editorial boards of eight international scientific publications, is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, and has won numerous awards for his research. In 1999 he was elected as one of 22 founding members of the International Olympic Committee's Science Academy.

    I. BRIEF OVERVIEW OF STRUCTURE AND CONTENT:
    H. P. Karr's Lexicon der deutschen Krimi-Autoren documents the lives and works of over 120 German-speaking mystery writers. The database includes information on film, radio and television authors, as well as those writing in more traditional forms. It aims to give the first complete overview of crime literature in German, including authors from both the old and the new German states, as well as those from other countries writing in German. For each author, the database gives the following information: Name; pseudonym(s), if used; short biography, including prizes and distinctions; works, both in mystery and in other genres; work in radio, T.V., film and other media. All authors are listed by the name under which they publish. If this is a pseudonym, the reader is referred to a real name as main entry.
