Welcome to BIO-TRAX, Inc., an environmental engineering and design firm committed to the elimination of mice, rats, imported red fire ants, and other nuisance pests.
Inst Ant KILL , one of our patent pending systems, uses an environmentally "green" approach to kill imported red fire ants. To eliminate the ant mound elim- inates the queen, along with the rest of the mound, without the use of poisons or toxic chemicals. Because there is no toxic residue or cleanup required, can be applied around children, pets, horses and other livestock. It’s safe for the surrounding environment as well.

The links here have been scrutinized for their grade and age appropriateness; however, contents on links on the Web change continuously. Teachers should review all links before introducing CyberGuides to students. This unit, designed to supplement the teaching of Two Bad Ants by Chris Van Allsburg, consists of four Internet activities in which the students explore the following:

  • How Chris Van Allsburg gets the ideas for his stories and illustrations
  • Ways to create food inspired by insects

Until recently there have been only 2 methods used to attempt to control fire ants, saturating the mound with at least 1 gallon of a potent pesticide or feeding the pests with a toxic mix of corn meal and poison. Both of these methods have met with only limited success. In 1955 the third and final method was developed to effectively control fire ants at a fraction of the cost of either of the previous methods. This breakthrough is: The Amazing Fire Ant Probe The Amazing Fire Ant Probe can treat 10 to 15 mounds using 2 gallons of mixed liquid insecticide with a 98% "kill" rate on the first application! The ecology, taxonomy and origins of prairie ants.

An Introduction to Ants (Formicidae)
of the Tallgrass Prairie
By: James C. Trager
Originally published in:
Missouri Prairie Journal
(Fall, 1998)
Introduction
Ants are a little-noticed but important part of the tallgrass prairie fauna. There are perhaps 100 species of ants that may be found in prairie tracts over the whole region, of which about 60 are typically found in prairies (Table 1) . In a good-sized prairie remnant, 25-35 of these occur together, somewhat fewer than the number of, say, butterfly species, but individual ants are so numerous that they collectively outweigh many other prairie insect groups. In one Oklahoma prairie, ants were among the top three prairie insect groups, their biomass exceeding that of grasshoppers (Kucera 1991). This paper briefly reviews the ecological roles of ants in prairies, their biogeographic and taxonomic characteristics, and their relationships to prairie restoration and management activities. This resource is based on the following source: Trager, James C. 1998. An introduction to ants (Formicidae) of the tallgrass prairie. Missouri Prairie Journal. Vol. 18:4-8. ANTS IV General Information
The 4th Algorithmic Number Theory Symposium (ANTS IV) will take place in Leiden in the Netherlands the summer of the year 2000. Arrival day: Sunday July 2. The end of the conference is on Friday July 7 at 3 PM. ANTS IV will be hosted by the Mathematical Institute and the Lorentz Center of the Universiteit Leiden The ANTS conferences, which are held every two years, are devoted to algorithmic aspects of number theory, including elementary number theory, algebraic number theory, analytic number theory, geometry of numbers, algebraic geometry, finite fields, cryptography and computational complexity. ANTS III was held in 1998 at Reed College, Portland, Oregon.
Local transportation
Leiden is located 25 kilometers south west of Amsterdam Airport (Schiphol). The airport is on top of a railway station having train connections to Leiden that are frequent (4 to 6 times an hour) and fast (20 minutes travel time). The Leiden railway station is walking distance from downtown Leiden, which is only a small area. You can also get a taxi at the railway station. The campus is a 20 minute walk in the other direction from the railway station and there is a bus every 30 minutes. The easiest way to get around between campus, downtown and the hotels is what all the locals do: ride a bicycle. You can rent bikes at the train station. Walking or using public transportion are also good options. There is no need to rent a car.

Ants Formicidae
Ants have been acclaimed for their wisdom since ancient times. They stand out at, or near, the peak of invertebrate development, displaying memory, learning, and the ability to correct mistakes. However, these intelligences are trapped inside rigid and programmed behavior patterns.
Like human societies, ant communities have their own expertise at the three primary methods of obtaining food: gathering, hunting, and growing. The caste system of ants is believed to have existed for 30 or 40 million years.
In North America, there are several species of ants, each of which have a distinct behavior pattern. These include carpenters, dairymen, soldiers, seed collectors, fungus growers, and even thieves and beggars.

News 7 November NetAnts 1.25 released !
Introduction
Following the first generation of download managers like GetRight, emerged the second generation of download managers with multithread functionality. Being compact, stable, easy to use and with a well-designed user interface, NetAnts have been regarded as the representative of second generation download managers.
Have you watched a those shows on the Discovery Channel or the Learning Channel where they show a colony of ants digging tunnels or chopping up leaves? Each ant in the colony does one tiny little part of the entire job. By itself each ant's contribution seems minuscule but when you multiply that by thousands or millions of other ants the results can be enormous. That's essentially what NetAnts does. By having say 5 different connections all downloading a small piece of the overall file, the whole task is done in a much shorter period of time. If one connection happens to be slow or die out, no problem. There are 4 others still chugging away. With the ability to split files into chunks and download simultaneously, it dramatically speeds up your download time.
NetAnts allows you to easily perform batch downloads from the Internet, either totally unattended, or while you're surfing with your favorite web browser. To select which files to download, you can manually add file names to the queue, activate a clipboard monitor that automatically grabs the file names that you've copied, or let NetAnts capture clicks from your browser. You can even create a "drop basket" on your desktop, and drag and drop files from your Web browser.

While there is much obsession with finding life in outer space, there are about one million different kinds of denizens of the animal world that breathe without lungs or gills, yet all have the same three body sections, six legs and antennae. I'm sure that up close, their appearance will out do any special effect space alien. Ants are just one kind of these. Webster's Dictionary states that King Solomon was noted for his wisdom. Thousands of years ago, Solomon wrote: "Go to the ant, consider its ways and be wise".
A Typical Ant Nest Worker ant scouts

Egg laying Queen Larvae The ant eggs hatch into larvae. The larvae latter grow to become full grown ants. The typical ant colony is usually centered around one or more egg-laying "queens". The smaller worker ants care for the queen and her eggs. The smaller male ants and the larger queen ants all have wings. The male's life-span ends shortly after its nuptial flight.
