Alabama Education Code For Homeschooling This is not intended to be legal advice and is distributed for information purposes only. Check for updates at your public library. Alabama does not recognize homeschooling as a separate legal option. Homeschoolers in Alabama must educate their children according to the provisions set forth in this legislation and therefore, most find "covering" or "umbrella" schools which will oversee their homeschooling programs and answer to the state. Parents with a teaching credentials may qualify as tutors for their own children. Rural or working children may also have an advantage. Compulsory attendance - Between 7 and 16 years of age.

Action for former students at state supported college seeking preliminary and permanent injunction restraining State Board of Education and others from obstructing their right to attend college. From a judgment of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama, Frank M. Johnson, Jr., J., 186 F.Supp. 945, upholding the dismissal and denying requested relief, the students appealed. The Court of Appeals, Rives, Circuit Judge, held that due process required notice and some opportunity for a hearing before the students at the tax-supported college could be expelled for misconduct.     Values Mission Statement Goals Strategic Planning Team The State Department of Education is committed to ensuring a quality education for Alabama's students with disabilities. Of the 739,321 students in Alabama's public schools, grades K-12, there are over 97,800 students identified as disabled. In addition, there are another 3,500 preschool students, ages 3-4. In the spring of 1998, the State Superintendent of Education appointed a strategic planning team to assist in the development of a long-range plan for Alabama. This plan is the "Alabama Agenda for Educating Students with Disabilities." 1998 - FUTURE

Organization It is the responsibility of the Alabama Commission on Higher Education to establish policies and procedures for reviewing and approving or disapproving all proposed postsecondary credit courses offered in the State of Alabama by any non-Alabama institution of education. These institutions must also be licensed to do business in Alabama by the State of Alabama Department of Education. For purposes of this rule, the following definitions apply:
