I'm the author
I wrote this book on contract, and I agree: it's awful. Editors changed five times during the writing process. Each editor deleted the material the previous editor wanted included. What's worse, the editors provided the research; when I told them their information was incorrect, they didn't change it.

I'm a Utah native. I told them Green Jell-O Salad is the state's most iconic dish. They chose Utah Steak and Beans. Seriously, who has ever heard of Utah Steak and Beans?!

Riddled with errors
One hopes all of Heinemann's much-touted products are not as full of mistakes as this book. For example, a picture of parade participants in "pioneer dress" is actually a photo of parade participants in Middle Eastern attire. The mountains west of Salt Lake City are misidentified as Mount Timpanogos. Many of the pictures have little or no relationship to the captions, and the text is even worse. Trivial things are mentioned--important things are omitted. Our library doesn't buy from Heinemann any more than we absolutely have to, because they have become an untrustworthy source. ... Read more
