From the supplier: Extended litigation over the Texas Workers' Compensation Reform Act of 1989 may eventually be resolved by the state's Supreme Court. The statute was challenged by the AFL-CIO and the case was declared unconstitutional by the Texas 4th Court of Appeals. If the Supreme Court agrees to review the case, 220,000 workers' compensation claims adjudicated under the new system may be reopened. Those who favor the act claim that it brought order and strength to a system that had an almost $2-billion deficit, and reduced employers' costs significantly.
