It is a nocturnal animal (that means it only comes out at night )It was named by early European settlers because of its eerie growl which starts with a whistle and ends in a bark.Tasmanian Devils have a pouch it opens backwards. They mate in March and carry their babies in the pouch. The young Devils spend 15 weeks in their mother's pouch. Devils are known for their anger and for tempers. (Where the Tasmanian Devils live) What they eat Tasmanian Devils have one of the strongest jaws out of any animal and usually eat all of their prey. Once a family of Devils ate a whole horse and left only the skull and tail. They eat other small mammals and reptiles as well as scavenging on dead animals. Where they live The Tasmanian Devil once lived on mainland Australia but they died out because of competition from the dingo. They live for about 7 years in their natural habitat of dry bush and scrub land. They were thought of as pests to farmers but are now known to keep down the numbers of crop eaters such as mice. They are rarely seen because of their nocturnal nature. What they look like The length of their body is 60cm and can sometimes weigh up to 8 or 9 Kg. They are black and very hairy. They are short and sturdy and have a broad head with pinkish almost hairless ears and a long bushy tail.

I would scour the roadside for the reflection of their eyes, as we drove back home. A thrill of excitement would go up my spine when I saw the sign of these nocturnal creatures. The Tasmanian devil cannot be mistaken for any other marsupial, the world's largest surviving carnivorous marsupial, the devil has a thick-set, squat build. Its spine-chilling screeches, black colour, and reputed bad-temper, led the early European settlers to call it The Devil. Although only the size of a small, stoutly-built dog, it can sound and look incredibly fierce. Their large powerful jaws and teeth are noticeable, especially as the jaws have a gape of 120 degrees, enabling it to completely devour its prey - bones, fur and all. They often appear battle-scarred and have bald patches on their coats.
