5-0 out of 5 stars great!!!
As the preview stories it is funny, entertaining and fresh. The author does not need to need to use gross language, sex or violence to write acan't-put-down book.Honestly I hope there will be more sequels.

The descriptions and stories of Sweet Briar make you really 'see' it and make you wish the town really exists. The characters are endearing and very funny, very well pictured.

I must say, though, that all this series books do remind me of the Grub and Stakers series. But that does not tarnish the delight one gets from reading it.

5-0 out of 5 stars a great mystery
What a story!Rose believes that her former student could not be a murderer, so Tori and her friends are doing everything they can to prove his innocence, but everything is not as it appears. This is one those stories where you get wrapped up in the character's lives that you're pulling for them in every step they take. There were a couple of tender and warm-filled moments that made this book a worthwhile read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and ambitious!
Elizabeth Lynn Casey really went for the ambitious story in Pinned for Murder, the third book in her lovely Southern Sewing series and pulled it off completely.

I don't do synopses so if you're looking for that go read the one under Product Description or in another review. What I will tell you is how brave and strong this story was written.

It's a cozy, you say. Yes, it is a cozy in that there is no gratuitous sex or violence and the sleuth is an amateur. But ELC's delving into the tough topics of how, as a society, we handle crimes committed by those who are less mentally capable; how some of the older generation, especially in the South, still view race; how we treat those in our community with less and how we try to understand the choices that they and we make. I don't want to make this book out to be some kind of treatise on the haves and have nots. But in the midst of this entertaining murder mystery ELC manages to provide a deep insight into real people's actions and motives by the actions and motives of her characters. It moved me and I am grateful that I got to read it.

But the real question, you want to know, is ... is it a good mystery? Are there twists and turns and clues and red herrings? Yes, yes and yes.

Finally, what I really like about the Southern Sewing series is that the supporting cast seems to get a book of their own to shine. This one is Rose. If we get a book featuring a more prominent role for each of the Sweet Briar ladies in Tori's life then we will be well served by this talented author.

5-0 out of 5 stars Now THAT's what I'm talkin' about!
Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about! This is a good cozy and it's why I read a lot of cozies. If I want angst and horror and strife, I'll watch the news, thank you very much. This is a good book in that the characters are all believable and, like the protag, I have friends of all ages. There are a lot of good life lessons in this book but it's entertaining and uplifting and complicated enough to keep my attention.I enjoy the relationship between Tori and Milo and the relationships Tori has with all her friends as well as her special friendsip with little Lulu! This was a very good read for me and I'm sorry there aren't more Southern Sewing series books out yet but I'll eagerly await the next one. Thanks, Elizabeth!

5-0 out of 5 stars if you miss this one, you'll regret it!
elizabeth has done it again!a cozy little mystery with a remarkable cast of characters.the members of the 'south carolina sweet briar ladies society sewing circle' will become almost family as you read this tale. you never find out whodunit until the last chapter, leaving you guessing all through the story. miss elizabeth has a way with a story that draws you in. i could tell you what the story is about, but it would spoil the story.you need to enjoy this one for yourself, and enjoy you will. so grab a cuppa whatever you like, light the fireplace, sit a spell, and join the sewing circle ladies for an evening of pleasure reading.it doesn't get any better than that. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Dress Up fun
Very cute and stylish patterns for the 18inch doll.My only complaint is that not all the patterns for the dolls are available for the child. You would have to buy an additional similar pattern from a pattern company. Also, the patterns are printed on both sides of a sheet making it impossible to cut the pattern out without ruining other patterns on the back side of the sheet. It wouldn't of been too difficult or costly to add a few extra pattern sheets to avoid this.I had to photo copy and trace the pattern pieces that I needed, which is time consuming. But overall, cute clothes and accessories.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for Christmas!
My big idea for my two girls (5 and 2) this year for Christmas was to buy a doll, make matching clothes for the girls and the dolls. Had to order this book! I love it because for me (new to the sewing machine and pattern reading) the added dvd of how to make most of the things in the book is so easy to understand. The only let down I had was for the pattern of the party dress on the front cover, there is no pattern for the girl only the doll. It instructs you to buy a certain pattern. Other than that I have no complaints.I have started making the tote bags that carry the dolls. It's so fun to pick colors and match things I know each girl will love. It takes time and effort to figure it all out but I'm certain on Christmas morning it will be worth it all! :)Thank you Mrs. Joanna for taking something that seemed so difficult and breaking it down for us beginners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
When I was a child, my mom would never buy me store-bought doll clothes. If I wanted them, I had to make them myself. This book has been the perfect re-entry into the world of making doll clothes, as I begin sewing doll clothes for my own child. The dvd is helpful. The instructions are easy to use, and I love her philosophy of not spending more than 30 minutes making clothes for a doll.

5-0 out of 5 stars All Dolled Up
I loved this book.Instructions are clear, photos are great. Definitely a good investment!

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book on pattern drafting.
I have had this book since 1985 and love it.There was a time when I drafted all my patterns from a sloper and pattern blocks and this is the book I used for my instruction.I was taught how by Mary J. Wadlington through the use of this book. Her style is casual and chatty, not formal and off-putting, and she often has notes on construction after the pattern alterations and drafting is done.To this day, when I want to design my own styles, I use what I learned in this book.I highly recommend The Custom Touch.

5-0 out of 5 stars The unexpected surprise.
When I graduated from design school I had all the tools I needed to make my clothes, except that I never used a home sewing machine. I saw this book advertised in the back of a sewing magazine and by the title and brief description I thought it would give tips and hints for taming the bobbin, tension, etc.

The book came and lo & behold it was a drafting & design how to. I should have been disappointed being that I had a suitcase full of textbooks on this, but after flipping through the pages I was intrigued. I decided to follow the steps to this design then that- and found I enjoyed this book even more than my terribly expensive texts written by industry giants.
Something about the way the author wrote - it was as if a family member was passing on her knowledge. After a month or two of wearing my designs I was asked to make things for my friends, and then their friends. No matter what they drew or asked for I was able to find a way to draft it because of this book. It was the only one I needed to take from the shelf. Well that was 20 years ago, and now that my son is a teen I want to teach my self to design again.

A few years ago I lost all my books when a pick-up turned my living room into a drive-through.The only good pattern drafting book I need to replace is this one. Think about that- I attended a good design school, had access to books costing $100-200 each, and the one I really want is available for about $20. That's how good I feel this book is.

5-0 out of 5 stars Learn how to become a patternmaker and stylist
Mary Wadlington takes the mystery out of patternmaking with a simple, direct method of drafting a basic sloper (bodice, skirt, sleeve and pants) that will become the basis for an unlimited variety of styles once you learn the principles of pattern transformation. The transformations from basic to particular style are well illustrated with detailed instructions.

The narrative is friendly and instructive, easy to follow. There are over 200 transformations given and although the book was written in the early 1980s you will find many of the style elements are again coming into fashion as evidenced by the bell sleeves, ruffled collars, volants and cowls that are appearing in the more eclectic fashions for 2003.

The book deals with styles suitable for construction of woven fabrics.A modern update should include knitwear pattern construction.

I wish Mary were still teaching and writing. She has a lot to share in this book.Worth looking for even in second hand condition. ... Read more
