5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read!
As an update to her first book, Dr. Jean Loftus's new book is not only a timely source for "what's out there now" on new plastic surgery techniques, but also a good basic refresher for anyone considering plastic surgery.I read her first book about one year after publication, and looked forward to this new book, when I learned it was "in the works".It did not disappoint me, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is even remotely thinking about plastic surgery.I particularly appreciated the straightforward advice about when one should not consider a particular procedure, and the abundance of diagrams and "before and after" photos. This book is a clear and easy read, and arms the patient with right questions to ask the plastic surgery duirng the initial consultation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Surgical intervention
I read this avidly, but was shocked that she left out a MAJOR woman's plastic surgery: brachioplasty. Not even mentioned. For most women, a major source of concern: that flab under your upper arm. Other than that omission, a "thumbs up" review. Concise, thorough, informative. No need to rush into surgery uninformed: this is a good resource on how to do your homework.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, Great surgeon
I highly recommend this book, especially if you are considering breast augmentation. The book is full of valuable information to anyone considering plastic surgery.I can not only speak of the book, I can speak of Dr. Loftus. She is an outstanding doctor who is able to put a woman at ease, listen to her goals and expectations, and deliver incredible results.Dr. Loftus is an expert in her field and has a stellar reputation in our area.

1-0 out of 5 stars Please Don't Waste Your Money!!!!!
Okay since I bought this book because of all the 5 star reviews it got here I'd like to send others a warning. I don't consider this a 5 star book. You can get the same exact information off the internet!

3-0 out of 5 stars For Basic Knowledge
The Smart Womans Guide to Plastic Surgery educates readers with basic knowledge of plastic surgery. I feel like some chapters are rushed and short. For example, the neck and face lift chapter is short and not as explanatory as breast surgery or liposuction. This book also has positive stories of women and plastic surgery. However, I wish that their was negative stories of women and plastic surgery. That way these readers can get a better idea if they want plastic surgery or not. I will say that chapter 1 is the best. Chapter 1 is the best, because it explains the scams plastic surgeons can foolpeople with. WHICH IS VERY SHOCKING! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars horrible seller
Unprofessional seller. I dont know why he doesnt have the courtesy to reply my 2emails. Please do not get anything from this person. Its a waste of time

5-0 out of 5 stars A complete change
This Grabb and Smith is completely different from the previous edition. While the previous version was a good one, this one is much better than the former, because chapters are more complete and less tedious. The fonts, paper and illustrations make reading this edition more comfortable. The authors, in more than 65% of the chapters, were modified, sometimes to ones less "famous" in the subject, but this is for the good, as the new authors don't stay focused only in their techniques. This is easy to see in reconstruction of the ear, for example. Burt Brent, the pope in this subject, did not write the new chapter, and so now we can have more highlights in the Nagata's technique. The size and weight of the book are smaller (or at least seem to be), making it easier to carry with you during shifts or travelling, making it an excellent daily reading book. It is the perfect stage between The Michigan Manual and Mathes-McCarthy-Converse's Plastic Surgery.

1-0 out of 5 stars Impossible to read....
Allow me to state up front that I have not reviewed any of the actual text in this book.I have eagerly awaited the release of the new edition of Grabb and Smith for some time. However, upon its receipt I discovered that the font seems to have shrunk and the text appears to be single-spaced - I imagine in an effort to keep the text down to one volume. What they have succeeded in doing, though, is to make the text virtually impenetrable without a ruler to keep track of which line you are reading and a set of loupes to clearly see the text.I would have been happy to have had the text split into 2 volumes in order to make it easier to read.

In any event, I kept it for approximately 2 weeks and made multiple attempts to pick it up and read it, but each time gave up as soon as I opened it due to the immediate headache I received.Ultimately, I returned it and resigned myself to 10 more years of the 5th edition.....

5-0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive multiauthor text
Like many textbooks starting off as a minimized version of the bigger textbooks, Grabb and Smiths plastic surgery has with every revision grown to become one of the big ones.
It is a multiauthor text, each chapter written by some of the most respectable practitioners in the field involved.
The literature is well quoted for detailed researche and most importantly it continues to amaze me that it offers a detailed informative review of each subject that seems to withstand completely the test of time.
I have the 5th edition and I have compared it to other texts and must say that if you have this book you will not need any other comprehensive book to add to your knowledge in plastic surgery. Journals will supply you with the additional information.I am not awaiting the nest edition to egarly because this book is still completely up to date and it takes an enormous amount of time and effort for every author to review their text. There will be some changes, especially concerning the practice of microsurgery, perforator flaps, tissue expansion and other wastly growing fields. But the foundation remains the same.
The CD is a good addition that I have used alot. It containes the book in an accessible format to carry along with you in your laptop where ever you travel. And again if you need something specific, pubmed will provide you with the rest.
It is well worth the money and the only book of plastic surgery I would be 100% confident to recommend as an informative text that continues to stand in the forefront as a grate book, written by pioneers in plastic surgery.

G.Gunnarsson MD

4-0 out of 5 stars WORTHWHILE INVESTMENT OF TIME AND MONEY
Very few surgical fields demand a complete and comprehensive knowledge of the entire human body. Plastics and reconstructive surgery is right up there when it comes to that. A successful Plastic surgeon incorporates knowledge of Gross anatomy, microscopic anatomy, tissue physiology, physiology of the patient itself and the innate aesthetic sense to recreate from tissue and prosthesis alike.

Grabb and Smith's text offers a comprehensive and engaging review of the essential aspects of Plastic surgery. Each Chapter starts with a review of clinical anatomy and leads on to Clinical aspects of diease. Historically important surgical approaches as well as current techniques are discussed. Disease classification is also described in excellent details through the use of tables.

I do firmly believe that this book is a worthwhile investment of time and money. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Adequate Review, Inadequate Details
Purchased this review book for oral examinations during residency as well as preparation for Boards. There appears to be adequate breadth of material, however poor organization of topics makes coherent studying difficult. The picture format is good for preparation of personal thought process, however the text is way too Pre-op oriented and minimal, minimal operative management, complications, and treatment options. The book purports an algorithmic approach to each problem, however the algorithms at the end of each chapter contain minimal information, do not direct the decision process, and do not fulfill the meaning of "algorithm".

Furthermore, there are many typographical errors, incorrect oncological treatments and staging, e.g melanoma staging with centimeters, etc.The diagrams that depict procedures are inadequate, such as an Antia-Buch diagram that truly does not depict the procedure and Rhomboid flap diagrams that do not accurate reflect which flap is elevated, etc.Furthermore, in cases where a more diagramatical description of a local flap would be beneficial, there is none.I feel that for a quick picture based review of what we may see on boards this is adequate, however must be supplemented by up to date and correct information.I would not recommend purchase of this book and would recommend a more thorough editing of the material presented. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars plastic surgery without surgery
The seller sent this book to me in extra quick time.I am pleased with how smooth the purchase went. This book isn't quite what I was expecting. It is morning show tips and tricks.I didn't need to buy a book to learn this stuff.I am sort of bummed that I bought it since most is common sense, and the rest is the trend of the day, and you hear about it on the talk shows and morning shows and such.Oh well, you can't win em all.But the seller was great.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too much work
This is a very informative book and the techniques and photos are very good. But unless you're willing to spend a lot of time sculpting your face with a lot of product, including a lot of heavy coverage product, you will be disappointed. If you, like me, just have some undereye darkness, freckles and age spots you want to blend, this is overkill.

Recommend you first read Carmindy's "Get Positively Beautiful," available here at Amazon for only $8.80. Get Positively Beautiful: The Ultimate Guide to Looking and Feeling Gorgeous You'll learn to be less critical of your "flaws." Carmindy's makeovers of real women alone are worth the price of the book.

Also, try Facial Magic facial exercise to tighten up the face instead of botox or the knife. It works for me and is a lot cheaper than having work done. Facial Magic Basic Kit [VHS]

5-0 out of 5 stars This woman is a genious
Eve Pearl does AMAZING things with people's flaws. Even though she uses pretty much the same for everybody, she does an amazing job with flaws. I mean, that's what the whole book is all about. Unlike other makeup books, Eve Pearl works with real people, not professional models or hollywood friends: it's real people like you and me who don't have flawless skin or perfect eyes or noses. I am a subscriber of Eve Pearl's youtube channel and you can see her in action, everything on this book comes to life as she does it... so go ahead and buy it, you will learn a thing or two in how to look closer to perfection.

4-0 out of 5 stars I Want More!
I love Eve Pearl--she is amazing.I am a Licensed Esthetician and I heard about Eve when I took a makeup class from another makeup artist who works in film and TV--he recommended some of her products. My only disappointment with the DVD is there is not enough! It is a fairly brief overview. What is there is valuable and quality--I would just love to have it be more in-depth.Eve offers hands-on classes but they are in New York (I am near Seattle) so the next best thing would be her classes on DVD. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Meet me at the quad after the surgery
After a corn thresher accident, I turned to Michigan University students to do my reconstructive surgery.(Wolverines!) Two years later, if asked to describe the experience, I would have to say.....YOU BUTCHERS! YOU BUTCHERED ME! I knew better than to let medical students do my surgery, but I was broke after trying to do it myself.

I thought since they had just beaten Florida in the Capital One Bowl, we all felt like we could do anything we put our mind too. I guess we were wrong. Rich Rodriquez and 1st year med student "Mayday" Montana are classic choke artists. Stopping Tebow was nothing like stopping my bleeding. Putting the "clamp" on Percy Harvin was easier than clamping my femoral artery. In the end, I guess we fans and victims probably feel the same way: We'll give you one more try, but that's it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for the Plastic Surgery Resident
This book covers all the basic info that a plastic surgery resident should know, in a small, pocket size book. You can carry it over, and let's you do quick reviews of diagnostic and therapeutic measures while on the move.

I definitely recommend this book as an aid to have on the go, besides the basic books you should have in your shelf for a deeper reading.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great For Plastics rotation
ALthough not as Comprehensive as Grabb and Smiths or another full size textbook, this pocket guide is a really fantastic summary of everything you need to know at the 4th year medical student level or PGY1. It is great to carry around and refresh info before going into a case or right after seeing a consult. I would use it this way so that I was always ready for pimping/questions. I would highly reccomend this book to anyone considering going into plastics or for residents to carry around with them in their junior years.

The only negative about this book I found was there was not enough pictures/diagrams of what they were covering in text. Sometimes this would mean I would know what a technique or method was called and what it was for but could not visualize it or name it when I saw it being done.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential manuel for Plastic surgery residents/rotation

4-0 out of 5 stars No Maxillo-facial Surgery in this edition
Great book for 1st year interns, just starting the specialty. This edition does not have the maxilo-facial surgery that the 9th ed. had. Also, i dind't find any new content, not even small changes. So, great if you don't have the 9th ed, bad if you do.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Canniesburn legacy
It is the very essence of our specialty. Clever tips and tricks originally written by one of the most distinguished pioneers in the field of reconstructive plastic surgery, Ian McGregor. He was one of the fine surgeons that built the Canniesburn legacy. An excellent surgeon and the teacher of a myriad of followers.Ian Jackson and David Soutar to name a few.Even though I miss the chapter of head and neck reconstruction from the previous edition it is one of my favorite short textbooks of plastic surgery. This book is an outstanding base for the understanding of plastic surgery principles.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value and Efficient Delivery
Great value and efficient delivery makes 5 stars for me. This book was highly recommended to my husband by his colleagues.

5-0 out of 5 stars AMust Buy
This is an excellent book to get you started (and keep you going!)in your plastic surgery rotation, it has all the basic principles supported with diagrams and clinical applications - and best of all it's very easy to read. The earlier editions have a chapter on Maxillofacial injuries, which has been omitted this time around. I just photocopied the chapter from an earlier edition!
I highly recommend this to all prospective surgeons- whatever your field of specialty. ... Read more

Product Description

Over the last few decades the outcome of facial plastic surgery (facelifts) has improved dramatically and has also had an increasing impact on the quality of life for the aging population. Younger patients have also recently expressed interest in individual beautification of their features. This authoritative reference book assembles the experience of an international faculty of authors, each of whom has performed several thousand facelifts, i.e. procedures to rejuvenate and harmonize the human face. All procedures in this regard are covered and the text is accompanied by extensive artwork and photographs. The authors share their experience, including tips and tricks, as well as ways to avoid complications and pitfalls. Special emphasis is given to the concept of looking at the face as a mosaic, i.e. treating its individual parts in a harmonic way and maintaining mimic units. Combining different methods, it is possible to improve the overall outcome and diminish the aggressiveness of singular procedures, which results in fewer risks and fewer complications. The book is aimed at plastic surgeons beginning to perform facial plastic surgery as well as experienced surgeons, who will benefit from the vast and profound experience of the contributing authors. A kaleidoscope of 363 important aspects, tips and tricks in facial plastic surgery rounds up the presentation. The included DVD further enhances the practical value of the book with videos of procedures performed by the editor.

Product Description
Dr. Jan R. Adams has over sixteen years of training in aesthetic surgery from some of America's finest institutions and performs hundreds of cosmetic surgery procedures a year.He felt compelled to write a book that would address the concerns of women of color after hearing numerous complaints from frustrated women, unable to find any book in the marketplace that held vital information for their specific cosmetic surgery questions.

Although there are dozens of plastic surgery books on the shelves today, not one of them is specifically tailored to address the concerns facing women of color. In fact there is virtually no place these women can turn to get information about their particular aesthetic problems. They age differently from Caucasian women and have unique skin problems such as scarring, hyperpigmentation, and blotchy skin.Dr. Adams will help take the anxiety out of cosmetic surgery by providing detailed information in a reader friendly format that will calm any anxieties and arm consumers with useful information.

He will address such issues as * Choosing the right aesthetic surgeon for you. When selecting a doctor, it is important to make sure your surgeon has the knowledge and expertise to treat your specific concerns.* What to expect before surgery - the various pre-operative visits and tests, what medications to avoid.* What to expect post-operatively, a reassuring guide to the many stages your mind and body will pass through the weeks after surgery.

Dr. Adams will also include actual cases of women who sought various procedures and the choices he offered them. He will also provide chapters detailing the majority of procedures sought by women of a specific age.Women in twenties - are usually interested in rhinoplasty, breast reduction and breast augmentation. The thirties are an interesting time and women are usually looking to rejuvenate their figures after childbirth. They are usually the biggest candidates for abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), liposuction, and mastopexy (breast lift). The forties are an age where many women will see the first signs of facial aging.Procedures discussed in this chapter include browlifts and eyelid surgery. The Fifties are typically the period where women elect to have facelifts, and the Sixties are traditionally a time of touch-ups, where it is recommended to get small procedures done when appropriate, in order to avoid that "tight masked" look.

This book celebrates the beauty and diversity of women of color. It will help you look and feel your best, and can serve as a blueprint for being healthy, vital, and youthful at any age.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ehh..
It has some good info, but I was dissapointed. If you are a woman of color you can find most of this info on the web or from your DR. Save your money, buy it used or get it at your library.

5-0 out of 5 stars I like it a lot.
I really enjoyed reading the book by Dr. Adams. It was very informative. My sister is planning to have surgery so I had a lot of conecerns. After reading the book, I was much more relaxed about the surgery. The book is very discriptive about the surgery process and pricing. Now I know what to ask the doctors when I go with her for consultations. ... Read more
