Norway's geography has provided a favourable environment for local and regional papers which have strong circulations and loyal readerships. Since 1969 the newspaper market has been subsidised to enable the smaller newspapers to survive. Subsidies are distributed on the basis of circulation, with a bias towards smaller newspapers. In the summer, you can have fun at the seaside or you enjoy skiing on one of Norway's spectacular glaciers. Norway's fantastic variation of natural landscape erases the boundaries between the seasons. You can go skiing, diving, fishing, climbing, glacier walking, rafting or reindeer sledding almost all year round. As long as the weather is right for it, of course. The transition from winter to summer offers exciting combinations of activities too. Try combining canoeing with a ski trip, for example. Once the river ice has melted there is still enough snow for a little ski trip into untouched Norwegian landscape.
