Extractions: Preschool children use small motor skills as they participate in these 2 easy activities by Mindy Materials: Coins, paper, outline / drawing of a log cabin, glue and colored pencils. Description: For Presidents Week I take different coins and let the kids do pencil rubbings. They can see the different Presidents and we discuss each President. I also use a drawing / picture of a log cabin and ask the children color it. Then we cut it out and cut out the door frame. We glue a small picture of Abe Lincoln to the inside of the door, so when the door opens you can see Abe Lincoln. Note In the block area add Lincoln Logs and encourage youngsters to build their own log cabin.

Extractions: Tired of giving and getting expensive Valentine's cards? This year, surprise your sweetheart with something that comes from your heart and your hands. To make all three cards you will need some folded card stock and matching envelopes, which you can find at any good crafts store. Pressed-Flower Card For this project you will need lots of small pressed flowers. You can buy little bags of these at crafts stores, but you can make them easily enough, too. To press your own, place flowers between the pages of a phone book, then stack five or six heavy books on top of it. Smaller flowers will be ready in one or two days; bigger ones may take a couple of weeks. To make the card, draw a very light outline of a heart in pencil. Using a glue gun, paste the tiny flowers inside the heart shape until paper is covered evenly. With a thin black marker write the words "BE MY VALENTINE" on your card. Cut-out Heart Card Using a pencil, draw several heart shapes on the front of the card until you have a pleasing arrangement. With a craft knife, cut out the hearts. Cut a piece of red paper to match the dimensions of your card, fold it right down the middle, and write your message inside. Put a little bit of glue on the folded edge and insert the piece of paper into the card, making sure the edges of the paper and card align.
