More than two hundred thousand persons each year, from all parts of the United States and the world visit the U.S. Army Ordnance Museum. The U.S. Army Ordnance Museum's mission is to collect, preserve and account for historically significant property that relates to the history of the United States Army Ordnance Corps and the evolution and development of American military ordnance material from the colonial period to the present. In 1940 because of the declaration of the limited National Emergency, the Armed Forces expanded, and the Museum building had to be remodeled for classroom use. Consequently, the collection was stored out of doors, and quickly deteriorated. By 1942, most of the items in the collection had to be scrapped. In 1940, G. Burling Jarrett joined the Museum staff and served as curator until his retirement in 1966. In 1942, a Foreign Material Section was established at Aberdeen to study and report on various types of equipment. During World War II large amounts of foreign equipment was sent to Aberdeen for evaluation, and later began the heart for the museum. Following the end of World War II the Foreign Material Section was disestablished, but the museum survived and became known simply as the Aberdeen Proving Ground Museum.

Liriodendron Located on West Gordon Street in Bel Air, Maryland is Liriodendron, a nineteenth century mansion that was the summer home of its owner, Dr. Howard Atwood Kelly. The estate was named Liriodendron by Dr. Kelly after the tulip poplar trees that shade the beautiful mansion grounds. Liriodendron is the botanical name for these tulip poplars. Interestingly, Dr. Kelly, who took quite an interest in the grounds, planted various types of trees on West Gordon Street that are noticeable as you approach the mansion gates. The planting was done in this manner so that if any given variety should become diseased, the others would remain unaffected. Growing up in Bel Air, and attending Bel Air High School, I had the pleasure of knowing and attending school with Susan Kelly, one of the former owners' daughters. It was through this relationship that I had the opportunity to spend some time in the "Mansion," through various get-togethers and parties. At this time, in the late sixties and early seventies, it was quite a thrill to have been able to see and enjoy this wonderful and most interesting house. The property was purchased on October 19, 1897 by Dr. and Mrs. Howard Atwood Kelly who paid $12,000 for the two hundred acres. They then hired the architectural firm of Wyatt and Nolting of Baltimore to design the house. This firm had also designed the Baltimore Court House, Fifth Regiment Armory, and the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Bel Air.

Research Field: American/Women's Studies. Project title: "The Women's Movement in American History: The Literary Dimensions and Reflections." If we look at the changes which are happening in Ukraine at the turn of the XX-XXIst centuries from the perspective of progressive movements, we may speak about the growing feminist scholarship in our country. There is a whole system of scholarly-research Gender centers which are developing courses, programs, manuals, glossaries and textbooks on gender issues. It is quite evident that scholars, engaged in the growing feminist scholarship need a place - an intellectual and social space in which to interact with others investigating similar questions and in which to communicate with students to ask and answer what we know about women and the gender system. In the USA universities have provided a place for such endeavors. It is interesting to look briefly at the history of American women's Studies departments to see the present and future of our gender/women's courses which began to appear. Historically, Women's studies (WS) courses emerged in the late 60s - early 70s and were closely connected with the Women's Liberation movement of the period. San Diego State University and Cornell are cited as the first two schools to offer courses in gender/women's studies. In some cases, established scholars began teaching a course on "women and ..." as part of their regular responsibilities at their home departments. In other cases, a group of young scholars, put together the prototype of an introductory course for women's studies. The number of courses grew dramatically in the first half of the 70s and began clustering into programs. By 2000 WS programs existed at more than 650 campuses and courses are offered even more.

Except for the sale of captive-bred birds of prey, person may not sell, purchase, barter or exchange, or offer, the plumage, skin or body of nongame bird, nor possess a game bird for sale, whether caught within or without the state. A person may not take or destroy or attempt to do so, the nest or eggs of a wild bird, or possess same, nor hunt or take nest or egg of birds regulated under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, except in the manner and by the means prescribed by USDI regulations, except for scientific purposes under a USDI permit and a Department certificate (10-401 and -402). The Secretary shall conduct investigations of fish and nongame wildlife to develop information on population, distribution, habitat needs, limiting factors and other biological and ecological data to determine conservation measures necessary for their continued ability to sustain themselves successfully. On the basis of these determinations the Secretary shall issue proposed regulations and develop conservation programs. The Secretary shall conduct ongoing investigations of nongame wildlife, and by regulation, shall adopt limitations on taking, possession, transportation, exportation, processing, sale or shipment to conserve fish and nongame wildlife. Except as otherwise provided, a person may not take, possess, transport, export, process, sell or ship fish or nongame wildlife in need of conservation, nor may a common or contract carrier knowingly transport or receive such for shipment (4-2A-03 and 10- 2A-03).
